This is why there exist special interest groups and even professional societies. Not everybody you come across is interested in your interests or my interests, particularly not in the encompassing and detailed way that we like to talk about them.

One final thought for the OP: You appear to be struggling because you don't fit the "normal" NT profile. There is a fine line between being "not normal" and letting that affect your relationships. I won't pretend that isn't a difficult line to walk, because it most definitely is....

Sorry you feel that way, bro. I understand where you are coming from, I'm a half-aspie myself (half-assed aspie?). Though it occasionally does cause me relational troubles (most recently, very severe troubles nearly including the loss of my marriage and all my extended family, though thankfully that...

Just personal preference, but my experience and preference is opposite the OP's. I grew up in a working class agricultural town, and in my post-high school years spent time living in a little college town in the mountains of Idaho, in an area dotted by little working class logging towns. The kind of...

I am remarkably observant. I say remarkably, because many times throughout my 37 years people have remarked about it. I observe, and then ponder, things that other people don't even know are things. It seems perfectly normal to me but frankly it does result in some awkward conversations when I start...

I asked God this very question last week in light of a lot of struggles my ASD has caused in my life and is now causing in the lives of my wife and children (by virtue of being my family, for one, and by having it themselves, in the case of two of my kids). I happen to have a very high IQ in additio...

Can you share the overall results of the survey?

For me, living in a very densely populated highly urban area is probably one of the most frustrating things about my life with AS. I grew up in a semi-rural area where you could quite easily find places to escape the crowds and be totally alone in a place outside of your home/bedroom/office/etc. It ...

Speaking as a fullblown, card-carrying Aspie, here's my POV from inside the AS fort, so to say: Be entirely honest with him (with, advisably, help from some more wine). The way Aspies perspectives are ordered, your fiancé likely doesn’t have problems with the truth about himself - just with his inc...

Yes, absolutely. I am similar to you OP, in that I'm not completely "inept" at social interaction. However one thing I think I know about aspies is that we are much more critical of ourselves when we make a mistake than NT's are. I know that's true for me, the term 'despair' is true someti...

I am 37 years old and went through a very comprehensive self-diagnosis process about two years ago. No need to get into that, but my confidence is extremely high that I have AS and yes it helped to understand my childhood quite a bit. My question is, can the symptoms progress over time? It seems tha...

I am 37 and self-diagnosed about two years ago, when my wife and I found out that two of our four sons had been diagnosed with AS. We are very conscientious parents, so their diagnosis led to a large amount of reading and research about symptoms, complications, presentations and coping strategies. I...

Thank you for the straightforward advice. You are correct that she really does need a break from the chaos I unwittingly introduce. I just hope that I am able to quell that chaos by learning better social skills especially as it pertains to seeing things I am missing or don't understand. I have been...

Hello, I am a 37 year old married man and father of four sons. Two of my four have been diagnosed with Aspergers, and present to varying degrees. I have never been officially diagnosed however after learning about ASD two years ago with our sons the diagnostic criteria also fit me to a tee and I am ...

Hello, Long time listener, first time caller. I am an adult father of four boys, mid-30's, intelligent professional career type fella. I never knew about or considered Asperger's in myself until about 5 years ago when two of my kids (first and third) were diagnosed by a neurologist. My eldest is "ju...

Hi. Hi. Here I am. I'm a 36 year old, married family man with four sons, a mortgage, a commute, and a career. Sounds like most other guys, except I'm not. I am convinced I have Asperger's. ("Who diagnosed you?", says half the crowd.) I did. ("Guffaw! You're not one of us, newcomer.") Well, I believe...
