Is there any effective way to deal with people that need to see the cosy boring interests (NT-people). And still be member of interest groups that shares your interests without making it possible to find out by seeing your profile there?, or in any other way.

Everytime facebook changes things (always for the worse), I get angrier that I ever created a profile.

I think if you join facebook groups, you can usually opt to get email updates so you'll know who posted something and can log on if you want to join the discussion.

I've un-tagged my pics and deleted some personal things.

When I look at newsfeed, I get overload.

I think the old myspace was perfect...why did they change it? Greedy b*stards!


PS - there is (or used to be) a setting to make it so only your "friends" can see your wall.

I'm more into discussion and don't want NT that can't grasp an unconformistic interest, to be able to either know that I'm a member of such group nor and absolutely not read any discussion.

Otoh, I found that the real interesting stuff is in smaller sites and on en-en-te-pe

Oh, I'm not sure if there's a way to hide the groups you're in, if that's what you mean.

I want to find a hacker who's figured out how to hack-your-own fb profile if they would tell me how to do this....I would so hack my profile!

ETA: I think "closed groups" can't be seen unless one of your "NT friends" is also a member.

I think the only way to do what you want would be to have two accounts: one with all your friends where you only include the mundane things, and another for serious stuff. I don't think you can restrict who sees your likes, and closed groups and status updates that can only be seen by a subset of your friends is time consuming and you'll probably slip up after a while.

I know of people who have two fb accounts to keep their RL and internet identities seperate

F@ceb00k, G00gle, and now, even the new myspace are taking advantage of users...now, when I surf websites, things that I've looked up are always used in target advertising....I might be able to overlook this if I didn't think my privacy was being compromised. The internet in the mid to late 1990's was in its hayday....ah, the good old days.

I wonder if one could build a distributed search engine without any servers.. *hmm*

I realized the new timeline profiles have safety features that are WORSE. Some of my friends from school's profiles are fully viewable now when they weren't before, so either THEY changed the settings, or timeline changes them unless you say otherwise. My facebook safety settings are as high as they can go, but even WITHOUT Timeline, I'm constantly being messaged by people I don't even know.

One of the big things that really annoys the sh(vowel)t out of me is all the ads on the page that are directed to me. Since I discovered that one of the reasons for listing interests, etc. was to determine what ads to put on my page I removed every bit of info on myself.

When they ask why I didn't like a particular ad I let them know something along the lines of this: ' I find your ads to be offensive. Let alone do you really need to make more money? How much do you really need? With the amount of money you have made of this website I think it's about time you removed them. ' I know no one is reading any of these comments, but I feel better writing them.

Another thing about adding comments about the ads is that they say the comments are wanted so that they can determine what advertisements will please the reader. Are they really that crazy that they think that people actually want these stupid things on their page so that Facebook could make more money???! !!???

Spam existed before Facebook. The planet is full of weak minds that will get hooked on it.



No, it's only a requirement to find job, entertainment, girls, etc..
There's even a shop that has their opening hours only on facebook.

That isn't true where I live.
For a job you look on job sites, newspapers or drop your resume into places.
For entertain you... go find something to do; if 5-year-olds can manage it then you can.
For a partner, you go talk to someone. Talk to people online if you can't do it IRL; there are other sites besides Facebook.

Ofcourse there's (still) alternatives to Facebook. But many things are FB only, and thus your choices gets more limited.

Examples?

Several applications I've seen for jobs require you to have a social networking account (FB or otherwise) so that the boss can monitor your personal life.

It's disturbing.
