i found this CNN article last night after my dad told me that he was told there was a worm going to be coming out on April fools day

I'm pretty careful with my downloading and browsing habits, but still, never keep your guard down on first day of April (worms or not)

Ah, well. Can you guess what my response is to a virus?

On the other hand, it would be nice if those people who do that would just grow up...

I have this feeling you will say "just start over and GET linux or a mac"

yea I agree about the hackers and virus developers need to grow up and get a better day job instead of inflicting harm on people who click on things due to almost no knowledge on computers.

How much will this affect Mac users?

It may effect (or may not) the whole internet if the traffic would raise drastically.

In other news: That worm is supposedly spread by infected thumbdrives. Seriously... are thumbdrives the new sl*t? People just plug them in anywhere? It doesn't seem like an overly effective mode of transport, but maybe I just don't use them like most people... they are mainly for backing things up.

1) The way is quite effective, because after infecting one computer in LAN it is trying to infect all other computer of the LAN.

2) What is supposedly to happen on 01 April 2008, is that the worm tries to contact servers to mutate. So no one does know yet (or at least no one tells the public) how the worm will behave after this day.

I didn't know it would spread over LAN, the article I read stated pretty clearly it was USB drives only. Makes more sense that way, schools and libraries would be infested. Suppose the misinformation is what I get for not visiting the BBC anymore... Yahoo is crap for news.

Never insert an unprotected USB stick. Always put a condom on it first. Think safe computing.

As long as you had your security updates you should be fine.
And this virus was made for Windows.

I scanned my laptop and its fine.

Cant say the same for my other computer though. I hope it will be ok. *sets date to april 2nd to be safe*

Since the virus activates on April 1st, why not skip that day before it gets here by changing ur calender settings to april 2nd and change it back to normal when april 2nd rolls arround for real?

According to this article, changing the date doesn't work, or merely turning off and then turning on your computer.

Nah. I aint worried about no worm.

Whatever. I hardly use Windows, and I keep my antivirus and spyware checkers up-to-date when I do use it. Maybe the spam it will produce will slow the Internet down a little bit... but I'm not expecting Armageddon.

Well its 9.30 pm and the internet is its usual self. The comp is fine but I would expect that because I do not use an OS that is built with bits of code from a Xerox Photocopier
