Why the hell does it matter to you what Apple does with their OWN products? If you don't like it, just don't use them. It's that simple. It's not like Apple is trying to make competing products illegal like Microsoft is. In response to your last paragraph, Steve Ballmer and Linus Torvalds do not own the PC. Apple, on the other hand, owns the Mac. There's a difference. Oh yeah, and you can't do "whatever the hell I want" with Windows. You can be sure that if you reverse-engineer it, you risk getting sued.

Mac, for sure.

I use both - prefer the Mac. I do have however have Windows NT 4.0, XP Pro, and 7 Pro available to me as a virtual machine via VMware Fusion on my MacBook and a physical Windows 7 Pro machine with XP Pro as a virtual machine.

PC all the way. My desktop runs Windows 7 and Ubuntu, but I have Slackware and Gentoo on my laptop.

I love backtrack 3 and Arch Linux however. Haven't had a chance to setup VMs and my EeePC is collecting dust.

Sorry, Apple is blasphemy to my ears. I don't have a single Apple product. They're overpriced. They are not as productive. They are certainly not as secure as they're cracked out to be. I would trust a Windows 98 install over OS X... And 98 doesn't have HAL. No arguments here.

Arch Linux. No Windows on my computer.

Is wine support getting better for photoshop? I know you prefer it for photo work.

You are missing the point - when i buy the product, it becomes MY product, MY personal belonging. f**k around with MY products after i the consumer has paid for it and consumers will be pissed off.

No. Mint uses all the official Ubuntu repos by default, and is fully compatible with any third-party Ubuntu repos as well.


The same problem actually occurs occasionally in Ubuntu as well, usually when apt or your sources.list is configured badly. I use either distro agnostically and I got at least as many errors in confirming packages with Ubuntu as I do in Mint now. But I've had at least a dozen updates in the past week and zero errors in authenticating packages.

Mint is basically Ubuntu with preconfigured proprietary stuff (drivers, codecs, browser plugins, easy availability of certain user applications like Skype, Opera, etc) and a better theme. Aside from that, the two distros are identical.

I was a Windows devotee for a LONG time. My first post-college Mac was a white iBook G4, and I've never gone back to PC's since. Yeah, Mac has expensive laptops. But it will be the last laptop you buy for a long time!! !!

My wife got hooked on my iBook, so I bought her an iMac G5, which was GREAT until a capacitor blew... I'll get that fixed--eventually...

I have a MacBook Pro now for using the internet, managing my clients and billing, music notation software (Finale), Logic Pro 9/Mainstage (Logic, for now, has become a glorified monitor/FX unit for my Synclavier but is also nifty when I run out of voices in the middle of a composition project), synth programming (Yamaha TX7, TX802, DX7IIFD, Roland alpha Juno-1), and Reason.

AND, as though that weren't enough, I bought an old PowerMac so I could run OS9. I have an Akai S2000 sampler, so I needed an old Mac with SCSI to do audio transfers and programming. I'm not sure, but I think the PowerMac is a '96 or '97 model, but might be older. I bought it off eBay for $50.

The PC I used throughout college is a '99 eMachines that still runs win98SE with near perfect stability. Though it's drastically underspec'ed, it can be coaxed into burning DVD's, and I even use it to quickly batch-process samples for the aforementioned Akai. It runs Gigastudio, something you can't do on a Mac, and from time to time I'll backup my projects to it. It also houses the majority of my MP3 collection.

So, sure, there IS a value to keeping a PC around. But over the last few years I've grown into a dedicated Mac-head, and that's not looking likely to change any time soon!

You know what they say: "Caveat emptor." Maybe you should have done a little more research before you spent all that money on Apple products.
