This:

Quote:
I have experienced problems with my antivirus programme and firewall.
is contradicted by your later assertion:
Quote:
Besides, my antivirus software is good enough to protect my computer from random viruses and malware.
Both can't be true, and I suggest you investigate the probability that they're not as effective as you think.

It's highly improbable that someone using a web forum would be able to track you down as an individual user sitting at a PC somewhere and then launch some sort of successful attack on your equipment - given nothing more than your posts to the forum - so I am curious to know how you are able to determine that "Whenever you make a critical remark about trolls, anonymous or would be hackers here they immediately show their presence on this forum." and how they are responsible for the problems with your antivirus and firewall.
Do you actually have evidence or is this just supposition on your part?

I have no idea how these guys do it and I don't really care because their hacking skills are often mediocre. There are very few master hackers and they certaintly don't belong to that category.

I am pretty convinced that they are using this websit to creat havoc. They love to prey on people that they consider to be vulnerable so this website provides an excellent opportunity for them to do just that.

Ok I agree - so it seems very unlikely that they would have been responsible for something happening on your machine, considering the technical obstacles they'd first need to overcome to reach your PC. (and I do know the things they'd need to overcome to do that)

Unfortunately every forum attracts some form of trolls and troublemakers but I wouldn't go so far as to say that these must therefore include so-called hackers and people from that loose gathering of pimply-faced youths known as "Anonymous".
Since both of these types are primarily concerned with very high profile names (Barclays, CIA etc etc) and their methods always seem designed to bring down sites, I wouldn't think there's enough going on here to keep them amused and, with respect, even less on your own PC.

Generally speaking though - if you are troubled by something you see posted here or think you are being trolled on WP (I'm afraid your PC is outside our jurisdiction!) then please report it to a moderator.

Sounds more like your PC caught one of the many, many viruses/malware, etc. that are infesting the internet. Do more frequent updates, and upgrade your virus program. Are you using AVG antivirus program. It is a good one that has free versions you can download right off the web, from their web site. You should also go to KimKomando.com to see what her site recommends. Her site has a lot of free downloads. Kim Komando is a computer and tech geek. She has a once a week radio show on Saturdays from 10am-1pm. It is rebroadcast on different stations at different times and days of the week. She takes calls from listeners to help them with their problems, during the Saturday broadcast, and gives away lots of free tech stuff. Her web site has a lot of help advice for those who miss the broadcasts. I believe you can also get podcasts of episodes that have already aired, if you register with the site.

So, do your updates and upgrades, and listen to Kim Komando. Or you can just have a melt down, instead. I know which I'd prefer. Good luck fixing your laptop. :D

This.

I would have agreed with that statement as well if it wasn't for the indication that people with autism 'choose' to have meltdowns and can simply just not have them, that is pretty ignorant to say on an autism forum.

Contrary to popular belief, 4chan is not full of hackers.

I don't think the intention was to present it as an option that should be actively chosen - it was more of an indication of a possible outcome of having the whole PC trashed as a result of being perhaps a little careless with its protection from malware and since keeping malware protection up-to-date is relatively painless, that would seem the obvious choice for someone to make.

I was under the impression it might have been full of losers who wish they were hackers but more spend their time just trying to troll people. But I can't say I ever looked much into it.

Yes, exactly. It's certainly full of "other" stuff though... 8O

Yeah, you're right. I don't think offence was intended, though.

There was a time in which people used to hack out of idealism but those days are over.

Some young hackers may focus their attention on big sites but the majority of them do petty stuff just to annoy people, especially trolls.
I once read an article about one of those guys who used to be involved in that abomination called "The Encoclypedia Dramatica" and some of the things he used to amuse himself with was to infect a website for people who suffered from epilepsia with bright flashes of light that can cause an epileptic seizure. What a psycho! There are numerous people like him on the internet these days.
Sad characters who hide behind their anonimity. If you critisize trolls, Anonymous or the Encyclopedia Dramatica there is a chance that they might come after you like a bunch of scorned schoolboys.

Public perception of 4chan often stems from the /b/ subsection, which definitely is full of losers who think they are hackers because they can use DDoS tools.

There are other subsections in which actual stimulating conversation can occur, though of course the trolling aspect is always there.

A DDos tool hasn't got anything to do with real hacking. It is nothing more than a simple download that any idiot can use.

They're not, but since the meaning of "hack" has been distorted by the general media into meaning something totally different there's little to be gained here by exploring that.

Trolls can be incredibly annoying and spiteful and yet have no technical abilities whatever. I would think that describes the majority.
In most cases "trolling" has nothing at all to do with "hacking".

You should be careful when reading stuff which implies that websites can be infected by practically anyone on their whim and the flick of a switch when in fact the reverse is more accurate.
That there may have been a site on which this was accomplished is no guide to the vulnerability of others and it should certainly not be a cause for general alarm.

A vanishingly small-to-nothing chance. Really.
And in any case they still have to find you and reach your PC: neither is as easy as you might think.
