I've had this Laptop since December 2012, I usually get a new one every two years or so, I guess because that's how long it takes for my laptops to start breaking down.

Dell Dimension 8200 I bought new around 2002 and that I maxed out its processor and rather expensive form of Ram.

Though I do have a couple of newer computers Like a Dell XPS with a huge amount of Ram, I keep these clean for max gaming performance and use my old Dell for general use and the internet.

When it gets slow and buggy I just reformat and reinstall which I did just this weekend.
Its now as good as new again.

I just realized that I have a bunch of parts to build a roughly 1995-era 486 system sitting in the shed at my grandparents place. Should I attempt to get that thing on the Internet and use it to post on here?

It'll be difficult, as I don't have an ISA ethernet card. A Pentium 1 would be much easier, as I can plug in a PCI card.

My main is a Lenovo Y580 laptop with i7 quad-core 8gb ram 2g nvidia gpu which I ordered directly from Lenovo. It's a little over a year old and seems to be having overheating issues so I'm supposed to send it in to Lenovo to check out. I think the fan may be going.

So, as a quick backup I just went to a retail electronics store and bought an ASUS netbook AMD dual-core 4gb ram. I work as a programmer (on my own rig, which I'm not happy about, long story) and I'm going to college at night so I really can't be without something. I really didn't like my options for a regular laptop at the retail store. Too much money for too little product, so I went for something "else" that was functional and inexpensive. I paid $270 for this and so far the only thing I take issue with is Windows 8.

Gateway FX6710-01
Over 4 years old. Only thing that's been upgraded is the PSU and graphics card. The PSU was a necessary upgrade seeing as how Gateway was too stupid to put something better than a 300 watt in there when it had what was a decent gaming card for the time.

The PC I'm using right now, my Hackintosh, is about a year old. My secondary desktop PC, which I sometimes use to post, is about 4 years old. My laptop, which I only use when I'm out somewhere, is about 2 years old.

I rebuilt my computer last year. Total cost was 800+ dollars. I kept only my hard drives, case and monitor.

Lenovo Thinkpad T430. Bought it second hand one month ago when the T440 went in sale. The laptop itself is ~1 years old. But I intend to use it for a long, long time. I love T-series thinkpads. The last one I got lasted me 10 years (yes, ten). (As a matter of fact, it is still perfectly functional apart from the battery and AC adapter, just slightly obsolete.) They are great, really well-designed machines that I can rely on. Most other laptops are cheap plastic boxes with as much hardware as possible packed inside without any other consideration.

My worstation is a machine I home built in early 2009. I didn't alter it since that time (I just upgraded the screen) and it still meets most of my needs :)
