- 8GB DDR2-800MHz dual channel SDRAM (4x2048)
- 1GB NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT, 2 DVI, HDMI adapter
- 1TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
- 802.11 a/b/g/n Wireless LAN card
- LightScribe 16X max. DVD+/-R/RW SuperMulti drive

- Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer
- Microsoft(R) Office Basic Edition 2007

Is the wireless LAN card the only thing I need to connect my Wii and iTouch to the internet?
- HP keyboard and HP optical mouse
- HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

I'd wipe the Windows Vista off of it, and install XP Pro, but that's my preferance. Definately get rid of the useless, expensive kludge that is Norton Internet Security, and download a secure web browser such as Opera, and avoid using IE as much as you possibly can.

Personally I'm wondering why you bought a computer from HP, instead of getting a bare bones system with a decent MoBo and PSU, and then assembling the system yourself from components?

Probably cost him quite a lot too, built my own system and it was at least €800 less than it's similar specced machines in PC shops.

Also, the 9800GT is just a rebadged 8800GT. Expect a LOT more GPU power needed to play Crysis otherwise you'll suffer playing it on high, not even SLI 280GTXs can run it smoothly since it was so badly coded.

No mention of the motherboard.... what?

I agree with this, but if going back to XP Pro keep in mind you'll have to use the 64-bit version if you want to be able to keep using all that RAM.

Hope you enjoy your new system, have fun with it. I have never used vista so I cannot comment on personal experience but I have heard a lot of complaints, if you can get hold of xp pro sp3 go for it if not dont worry.

As to the 8 gig of ram I have heard that vista will suck up to 16 gig if it is available, years ago I had to decide between 4 and 8 Mb of ram, everyone told me that I would never need THAT MUCH ram and I was waisting my money. I never forget when I saw my first 12 mb video card WOW who needs that much power!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !

8Mb = 1MB RAM...

I see going to Vista as a step backwards. I'm presuming with the set up, it's a 64bit computer running 32bit version of Windows so half the bandwidth of the processor will never be used and will be the same as the 32bit equivalent.

I have to laugh when people say they got a better computer cos it's 64bit, but then I laugh when they say they are running standard Windows XP Professional instead of Windows XP x64 Edition

it says in the OP it's 64bit, if not it'd be a waste the 8gb or RAM

It's GPU is crap though.

This is why I hate prebuilt PCs, they always skimp on the soundcard/GPU.

The Nvidia Geforce 9 GPU is actually pretty good. He could have gone with the GTX200 series, but he decided to save some money by not choosing that card..
