Firefox using lots of CPU, being slowwwww
Ah. I thought you were responding to the post immediately before yours.
I would definitely put OS X above Windows. It is at least a UNIX system. Windows has no real advantages except for use as a gaming platform. It's a toy. For serious work you need UNIX.
I don't see the advantages of buying an over priced piece of garbage like an iMac just to get Mac OS X because its quite insecure and really doesn't have many advantages over Windows. You do make a good point about it being a UNIX system but I feel that Apple ruined it by putting their spin on things.

My choice of OS has nothing to do with a badly coded browser.
How come I have not run into such issues?
Is your system the exact same as Asp-Z's with the exact same setup? If not, then your question is irrelevant.
No its not the same as Asp-Z but firefox does not slow my computer down and does not hog my CPU, the only reason why it does that is because he is running a not so good OS on over priced inferior hardware.
The fact you insult the hardware shows you really don't know that you're talking about - it uses Intel processors just like most PCs, and the other components are made by normal hardware manufacturers too: my HD is by Western Digital, my RAM is probably Samsung, etc.
The OS itself is very solid, I've used it for many years and it has served me well. The Firefox problems are with Firefox, many Windows users reported experiencing the lag too.
With the Chrome issue, many others have had this problem, too. After one simple Google search, I found:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/C ... 4f29&hl=en
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/C ... 57b3&hl=en
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/C ... b04a&hl=en
Notice how the last two people having the issue use Windows.
So, if you havin' computer problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but my Mac ain't one ![]()

Number one, I don't even use f*****g Windows.
Number two, I know a great deal about what I am talking about.
Number three, I don't buy computers I build them myself.
Number four, never had any computer issues.
So shut up.
He didnt say you did. He said it affects windows users, so its not OSX specific.
Okay. I am sure you do. But that doesnt mean you know everything, which I see was aptly demonstrated.
Good for you. So do I. But that doesnt mean we have access to secret magic components that Apple cannot get. Why are you bringing up buying anyway?
The fact that at some point you thought you could do it better than a OEM manufacture suggests otherwise. You had some experience with a purchased machine that suggested they were crap and you switched. This is what happened to me too. So no, none of us believe you. You have had computer issues.
Hey, Asp-Z, you've been told it seems. You have no recourse but to never attempt an argument with lxuser again.

I installed Ubuntu once and it completely destroyed my paying relationship with Microsoft.
Macs are quality machines. They are more expensive, but they aren't too horribly priced for a mid-range machine. Apple also has better customer service than most other manufacturers. And their laptops have some extra advantages, like the absurdly long battery life that no one else can seem to match.
Security: Macs, just like Linux, aren't going to get viruses. It's about two or three checkboxes in System Preferences to get a Mac secure enough. The default install options in Ubuntu will hand root access over to literally anyone who sits down at your computer. Debian also defaults to being trivially easy to gain root on (if you have physical access to the machine).
For the mainstream user, or someone who doesn't want to try to figure out Linux, OS X is a good choice. It's reasonably secure, has built-in stronger security that you can easily enable, has better performance than Windows, and is UNIX-based with the Bash shell and all the other standard goodies.

I still have major doubts about Apples quality, you can build a much better computer using top quality parts for less than you would pay for a Mac. Here in Aus, a lot of people are having issues with Apple's customer services. BASH is a second class citizen in Mac OS X. I dislike Ubuntu and Debian, I like to use distros with SELinux and built in firewall utilities. I even compared my Garmin-Asus Nüvifone A50 to an iPhone 3GS, my phone is built a lot more solid and does not seem to have firmware issues and lock-up issues like the iPhones have.
Anyone who says he's never had computer problems and is reduced to telling people simply to "shut up" instead of arguing a point isn't someone that should have time wasted on them, especially when you couldn't even respond to my point about the hardware.
What ever you have to tell yourself. Its not worth it trying to put some sense in the Apple fan boy's head, you can have your dumb Apple crap and shove it up your arse for all I care.

Wow, what a sensible and thought provoking argument you put forward

End of discussion alright.
True, but you can't build a laptop as easily, and the typical mainstream user isn't going to build their own machine. In terms of pre-built systems that you can buy at retail, a Mac is a reasonable deal for the quality you get (in terms of both hardware and software, as well as customer support).
In what way? The full bash shell is there. All the standard command-line utilities like ssh, scp, grep, are there. You have GNU Emacs, Vim, and Nano for editors. OS X is POSIX-compliant and meets the Single UNIX Specification.
So Fedora? I've had issues with that distro, but to each his own.

Asus says it all!! !!

Its just the way I feel, I could be wrong. Plus Linux you can easily do more cool s**t in, like USB thumb stick RAID!! ! Linux is also compliant to the Single UNIX Specification although its not official.
So Fedora? I've had issues with that distro, but to each his own.
Yeah Fedora I guess, I have had enough of Ubuntu and all its buggy arse crap. I have never had the issues with Fedora like I constantly had in Ubuntu.
I don't understand what you mean by this comment.
You are. Mac OS X has all the UNIX goodies. They may be tucked away where the typical user won't feel tempted to play with them, but they are there when you need them.
I have always found Fedora to be buggier. Perhaps it's just my system or something. One problem I ran into was the very slim selection of software available from the distribution itself, meaning I had to go to third-parties way more often, and the lack of official documentation on anything relating to proprietary software makes life inconvenient. For instance, I needed to use a program for one of my classes that only works using the official Sun JRE. There are no pre-built Fedora packages of that, and no official documentation on how to properly install it (I found several howtos on the subject from third parties). Unfortunately, SELinux decided it didn't like the Sun JRE and proceeded to make even more trouble for me.

Is installing and setting up SELinux or a firewall too hard for you? Do you primarily dislike ubuntu or debian because they don't come pre-installed with SELinux? I thought you were a self-proclaimed computer expert? Personally, I think ubuntu is broke-ass
I dying to know why you and orwell are even running SELinus on a desktop
I don't have the time to set-up stuff, I actually like to use my computer. Plus SELinux is installed by default in Fedora. I don't mind having it on a desktop it never gets in my way.
Plus I don't need a total random telling me what I do and don't know about computers.
