I want to convert VHS movies to DVD with my computer, but I haven't a clue how to do it. Must I buy special equipment to do this?

if you want to do it yourself, yes, you need at least a video capture card.

Honestly if you only got a few VHS tapes, there are places that will in average cost like $10 to convert a 1 hour DVD. Zero hassle.

I am pretty sure that I have a video capture card, since this is a fairly new computer. But how do I go about doing this? I am not terribly knowledgeable about these things!

this is what I do for work.

I use a mac with a Datavideo brand video digitiser
box and final cut editing software.

It depends on what kind of quality you want,
if you want the best quality you should use
commercial quality equipment, otherwise
you can get away wtith using consumer or
for a little better quality use at least studio quality.
