I realised that they were trying to make my settings more public straight away when the new page came up.

Thanks for posting this.

I noticed that my page won't come up in a search. I checked my privacy settings. I'd like to have it set so that if someone types in my name, my profile will appear.

I don't get it. I edited my settings, so my Facebook profile wouldn't show up in Google, but it still does when I Google my name... :?

I found out what Facebook really does, when you share as little info as possible.

To share as little info as possible:
- Change your settings to share info with no one, wherever possible, for the rest: friends only.
- Change your 'Search' setting, not to allow for indexing in search engines.
- And in your Profile: -> 'Friends' list -> click pencil -> turn 'show Friend List to everyone' off.

What it does then:
- For anyone not on Fb: if they google your name, your Fb shows up, if they click on it: no profile.
- For anyone who is on Fb but not in your friend list: if they google your name, your Fb shows up, if they click on it: it shows your profile pic, any 'Mutual Friends', and the option to send a friend request (you can change the 'add me as a friend' setting, from 'Everyone' to 'Friends of Friends').

Thanks for posting this thread. This has been quite on my mind these latest days. I was furious on Facebook when they changed all these new settings. I didnt like the site from the beginning and their changes made it even more difficult to be around. Because the above do not have the option to set it to "only me". They have simply took off some features where it was possible to state "only me" and give options like above you dont want to choose.

No I liked facebook better when I could be invisible for everyone not beeing my friend. When they wasnt able to either see my profilepicture or even being able to click on my name.

Well, thanks for bringing the search issue up as well. I searched my name on Google and didnt find it in connection with Facebook. So apparently that part at least is working. But I wouldnt be able to be there at all if I wasnt present under pseudonym. Meaning I have to tell who I am, otherwise people cant add me as they dont know its me...

Yeah, I'm also annoyed with it.

Here's a news article I just found, from Dec. 16, 6:14pm ET, msnbc:
