I need to know if there's a quick, easy and free way to mount an iso onto a CD, DVD or flash drive. Thanks.

I think there is, but I think it makes more sense to store my ISOs on an external hard drive.

"Mount"? You mean "burn"? You can easily burn it to a CD or DVD with built-in tools, but you might need to get a program to be able to make a bootable flash drive, like UltraISO or something, but you could probably find an open source program to do it.

Under Linux (and probably as root):
mount SomeFile.iso SomeDirectory/ -t iso9660 -o loop

whatever. yeah, I guess.

can no one give a straight answer? We're pulling our hair out looking for the vista or 7 disks because the effing pc crashed.

If you only have the one PC (and that's the crashed one), and you have an ISO file on the DVD/CD then the answer would be "no; not without a running operating system".
A DVD/CD drive's firmware will expect to find what it requires as an ISO disk, and won't know what to do with an ISO file.

The word "mount" in computing means to make a file system accessible to an operating system. It does not mean the same as "get stuff on or off other stuff." Cornflake directly and informatively answered the question you asked, and you responded in a rather rude fashion.

Anyway, K3B is a good tool for burning ISO's onto removable media, I've never had a problem with in all the many times I've burned a *nix ISO.

Oh, that's just lovely.
Why not save yourself a whole heap of problems by properly formulating your questions in the first place?
And having not done that, please don't then whine when you get perfectly realistic answers.

As I understand it the OP currently has no access to a functional OS, therefore installing an application to burn an ISO file is likely to be problematic.

^^^ It is made rather more problematic by the fact that he was using a functional OS in order to make this post.

Not sure. ISOs are intended for CD/DVD media. Now, I copied a install CD to a flash card because my netbook didn't have a DVD drive, and I managed to use it as the install disk, but that's a different matter.

I suppose you need a virtual CD/DVD drive that lets you load ISO files from a HDD but interacts as if it's a real CD/DVD drive.

Mounting an ISO file as I suggested earlier gets access to the contents easily enough (the contents of the ISO file just appear like any other directory on the system; to all intents and purposes, that directory is the CD/DVD the ISO was made from), but booting from an ISO file is another matter.
I've done it with VMWare using an ISO file made from a bootable Win98SE installation CD - VMWare just boots it like any other physical CD - but then again, VMWare is something rather special.

Depending on what's required for installation, it's certainly possible to just copy the whole CD/DVD intact, as files & directories, to a USB stick and run the installation stuff from the USB stick.

PowerISO, I think, can mount an ISO image and make it available as a drive in windows.
