Good question. I've done it on and off over the years. I used to use Limewire, but I hear that's gone 'pay only'. Bearshare just hit me with viruses about 10 minutes into the 1st download.

You can listen to bands at lastfm.com (thanks again to the person who told me about them), but I'll be watching this...

7digital is the best site, I never touched iTunes after trying it thanks to the ability to redownload easily and do a direct download instead of using a special program. If you were looking for something more like limewire, "torrents" are the dominant way to do that now, and a google search reveals plenty of readable instructions.

Don't.

Seriously, you non-techie people are the ones who spoil all the good download sites, applications, and maneuvers. You and the loose-lipped people who just tell anybody anything. Freakin' narcs.

I personally don't like it when people act like 2/3 of the internet is a big secret and feel they are the judges of who can do what. If a poster on some forum hadn't revealed the big "secret" of usenet quite a while ago, I wouldn't have gotten into the internet.
