~50 extrasolar planet candidates have been found by regular people at home. I hope to find one, myself

I should probably help out with that.

I want to hurry up and find the planet of the apes so we can expedite the repatriation of the Obama administration.

Sending them to LV-426 ("Aliens") or Predator's planet would work nicely too!

You know, stuff with medical applications that could actually save people's lives. There are distributed-computing efforts on, for instance, protein folding, which is going to be very important in medical advances going forward.
