Mark Zuckerberg is one of my role-models.
But, how did he get his site popular?
Im thinking of making something like Mark Zuckerberg.
The thing im developing is nothing any one has ever thought of, its cool, its different.
But, I only have a few friends I can reccomend it to.
How else would I get it popular?
EDIT:
It is not a social network. it has something to do with code... So it does have a bit of Social Networking, but not much.

Forums, messageboards, advertising, making a fake conversation about how cool your website is in social media and target audience locations, manipulate Google to show your site on top in the searchlist (isn't that hard as I have heard), get reffered by others, get mentioned in blogs and newssites, etc., etc.

How does one become an on-line success?

Well ... I'd recommend that you first read and understand 18 U.S.C. 2257...

This guy annoys me, but there seems to be some useful information that you might find relevant here:

Provided you're in the USA, of course. Not everyone is.

Another member, DianeDennis, suggested Site Sell for getting websites traction; it might help for your idea.

My main advice: be true about what you are doing. That is, be honest with your audience, be passionate, and offer something of Value that will keep people coming back.

btw, read 37signals' SvN, great stuff in there.

A website offers a unique service to a person or group of people. It is something that is useful and is offered for FREE.

Facebook- Free social networking
MySpace- Free social networking
YouTube- Free Video Uploading
Craigslist- Free Place to Post Classified Ads
Google- Free Search Engine
Monster- Free Job Listings/Search
okCupid- Free Online Dating Site

Do you see any wildly popular website that offers something for money?

Honestly, you have to have a vision for offering a service and then go for it. You could make a new form of entertainment, a cool tool like converting money or online graphing, free coloring pages for kids, etc.
