I'm buying a computer for school, and needed opinions. I'm leaning towards a Toshiba but I'm not sure yet, and I don't want one that's crazy expensive

What kind of specifications do you want on the computer? Do you need it to be fast? Will you want to play games on it? What about music or videos? Is a netbook or a tablet okay, or does it have to be a laptop? What about a desktop?

There are so many things to consider other than brand when buying a computer, but those are the most important questions.

I want it to be fast, I probably won't download games on it, music and videos would be good but not necessary, and it has to be a laptop.

Before you go to Best Buy please understand that they sell laptops as loss leaders to get you to get their BS add ons. I would very strongly advise against getting your computer there. Instead look for deals online, or at small local stores that will treat you better. To answer your question, each PC is virtually identical as far as the components inside it, so each major manufacturer is basically going to give you the same value.

If you absolutely must buy a laptop then buy it from Dell. Best Buy sells computers that are usually 1 or 2 tech generations behind the latest...and at retail prices (aka you pay ~25% markup).

If you need it only for internet browsing, word processing and other such schoolwork then literally any laptop Dell sells will do the job so buy the cheapest one.

I would suggest though to try and get a 17" screen laptop because the wider screen makes it easier on your eyes and its much nicer to watch movies on it. And get the extended warranty on it... laptops and college usually equate to accidents ;)

Finally, whatever you do do NOT buy a netbook or e-book. Those arent any better than tablets (aka ipad, etc).
