Advice RE: Getting a Netbook

Thinking about getting a netbook in the next couple of months for university to take notes. My handwritten ones end up more like doodles, and my laptop is too heavy to carry around on buses all the time.

Does anyone have a netbook for this purpose, if so which one and how do you find it works for you?

I know they are kind of opposite qualities, but does anyone know of something with low weight and high battery life?

Or just generally recommend a particular brand or model?

I hate my netbook... stupid thing got super slow right after I installed office on it. Gotta reinstall it now with something decent... like linux

I don't use it for notes, but I like the Acer Aspire One that I've got. I'm pretty sure it was about the best thing out there when I got it, but things change fast for computer hardware. It has pretty good battery life and it's pretty light and fits in a backpack well.

The Acer Aspire One that I own came with Windows xp. My only significant complaint with the hardware, is that (about every 10th time I take it out of hibernation) I do have to turn it off, unplug it, and pull the battery, in order to get it to "see" any wireless routers. I am running an old version of Ubuntu Linux that I installed as a dual boot. When I use the web, I only use Ubuntu. I don't think the problem is software, since I have read about other people with this model who have the same problem. Hopefully, this is not a problem on subsequent models. I know the design and specifications on the newer Acers are much better.
