Ya I find black holes facinating. Exspecally the idea that there is a supermassive black hole in the center of the universe where all the gallaxies revolve around. Its not proven yet, but its one of the ideas of the structure of our universe.

thats an idea we can hitch a ride in the winds of a black hole to explore space as we never seen it! jk..lol

is that 20 million mph the speed of the outgassing jets that originate from the axis ?

I've always concluded that if light can not escape a black hole then space must be entering at a speed in excess of 671 million mph(speed of light).

iow...the same way a plane flying at a very slow speed can't make headway in a very strong headwind, or a slow boat in a very fast current.

The coronal mass ejections from our sun go at about one million mile and hour. They get to earth in about 4 days.

To think that 20 million mph in that black hole is about 3% the speed of light scares me slightly. I guess its because it's past a percent lol.

When a black hole 'eats' too much matter there isn't enough space for it all to travel past the event horizon so the excess gets jettisoned at huge velocities along the black hole's magnetic field lines. Along with all the matter that is jettisoned is the gamma radiation that is produced from this process, which of course travels at the speed of light. This is the basic principle behind the theory that galaxies can seem to only get to a certain size. They can get massive (by merging with other galaxies), but the bigger they get the more matter the supermassive black hole swallows up. This shoots out incredible amounts of gamma radiation along the field lines effectively leaving 'dead areas' where nothing in the galaxy seems to 'grow', limiting the size of the galaxy. It's similar in principle to the nuclear fallout you get after a nuclear explosion, the radiation levels in the are is so high that nothing but extremophiles can exist for a long period of time.

That's the theory anyway.
