Voice Recognition Software

Has anyone used voice recognition software-also called talk to text? I have AS, as do my 2 sons. The 17 yr old is having a very hard time with schoolwork and could really benefit from a voice recognition program to help with his classes. I've been told for these to work, you must speak slowly and clearly. Does anyone have any experience with these? Thanks for your help!!

the software Dragon costs $50+.

if you have windows 7, chances are there is already a voice to text program on there.
