What are you're thoughts of this?
Sure it could be possible in the future, with enough computing power.

Whether I think its practical, not really I think the thought of programming our entire world, universe, every individual person so on so forth, would be almost impossible.

In reality you're talking Graphic hardware one million times more powerful than current days, then you're talking perfect coding without mistakes. To create this you'd need to be more than 10 Genius's combined, and live a few thousand years to accomplish the coding to create the entire simulation.

Then if we're in a simulation why do I control myself? I've never seen anything close to real human characters in any simulation games, and I also haven't seen glitches in life as you would if you're playing any game. Then you could argue Mentally ill people are coded badly, but it doesn't add up.

I like the perspective it gives me when I ponder it myself, looking at the world like its only a simulation is interesting to say the least! I think its a cool prospect, yet I really don't believe its a real possibility. Like a wise man once said 'If you believe in something enough, you'll always find something to make it real'.

The evidence put forth is interesting, but not indisputable. I wish there was more information on the Theory, but doesn't seem to be much in terms of Media interest at all.

Please explain as clearly as possible what you mean by "Simulation Theory".

You've never heard of The simulation theory? Its a theory that suggests the world we live in is a computer simulated reality.

One could prove that only by being in contact with the Real Reality.

The simulation theory has no empirical evidence to support it. Furthermore if our senses are too crude we would have no way to distinguish between a false Reality and a Real Reality. The proposition simulation theory is true, is empirically undecidable so it can be safely ignored.

There is no way of empirically falsifying simulation theory so one can safely ignore it or treat it as nonsense. We have no empirical way of deciding whether it is true or not.

That hardly meets the most basic standards to be called a theory. It's more of a hallucinatory conjecture than anything.

That is quite correct. The "simulation theory" does not have within it an effective test for determining if the world we live in is Really Real.

I feel blessed I always seem to see you! ;) Please don't direct this at me, I didn't create it nor do I support it.

If everyone could do they're own research on this, it would be much appreciated.
There are a few interesting videos on you tube, any further information is probably a few clicks away on Google.

The beauty of life is researching, and scrutinising all information on your own terms. That's the best way.
This poll is for those that have researched this already, if you require information please research and don't just ask questions.

I'll leave you with this though, how do you know our reality is truly real?
What defines real from unreal?
I've found no sure way to disprove this Theory or I would've already done so.

This is pretty similar to many questions in science, like "are we real".
They go fairly hand in hand.

These questions cannot be resolved empirically.

I think it is as credible a theory as any. I actually like it and can imagine an infinite line of simulated worlds awaits us after this one.

What empirical evidence supports it?

If it ain't empirical it is nonsense.

Its not your place to be arrogant and demand that we waste time researching it.
Its your place to sell us on the idea that its worth our time to take seriously something that anyone with common sense can see is just a load of crap!

Simulation theory is like the conjecture that the Iliad and the oddysey were "not written by homer, but but an entirely different person of the same name". Its just double talk that only a dolt would take seriously.

So this is not real reality-its simulated reality. So what? How exactly does that make any difference?

So... you have the podium- make your case.

How do you test the theory scientifically? And what exactly does your theory even explain? What difference would it make if it were true? Why should we take an interest in it?

Dr. S Beane, et al: http://arxiv.org/abs/1210.1847 an idea of how to test the theory

There is serious academic inquiry into this idea by reputable researchers. That, of course, does NOT mean that it is true. :D

The fact the the idea of the Simulated Cosmos can be analyzed mathematically means that it is not blithering nonsense. But as you point out one would need an actual experiment to see if it were true.
