Can you remove background music from a video??

I need to remove the background music from this video, so that I can hear the chanting without the irritating music.

I don't know how or even if it is possible.

Can someone with knowledge in this area let me know what to do?

I would look up the song and see if you can find a different version of it. I'm not an expert in this area but I don't think there's much you can do on a youtube video. Sometimes they do have different version without music. Probably by a different person but hey it may be just as good. So try copying and pasting the song in the search engine and see what comes up. Sorry I wish I could help I know how much it sucks when there's that one flaw with a song you really like.

If you could extract the sound as a wav file or something similar and bring it into an audio editor like Adobe Audition or Audacity (which I think is free) you might be able to isolate the vocals pretty well. I noticed that the vocals are pretty much centre in the stereo field with most of the musical elements panned either right or left.

Basically there is a trick you can do that basically inverts the left and right channels so everything panned left or right gets cancelled out and you are left with the audio information that's primarily in the center channel. Or I might have that backwards. I tried it a couple times years ago, but forgot how to do it.

I think can do it with my hardware pretty easily If I had wave file or MP3.

Edit: I found a way to extract an MP3 file from the video. After listening to it again (The MP3 sounds better than the youtube vid BTW) I really don't think there is much that can be done to isolate the vocals after all. I'll give it a whirl though.

I wasn't able to do much. I did some processing to bring out the vocals a bit more and raise the overall volume.

To do what you asked I would need an EXACT copy of the track with just the music in order to cancel it out and primarily be left with just vocals.

Alternatively, depending on whether it's the chant you want or that specific performance of it less the music - searching YouTube for "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo" found this and many others:

Considering if the op doesn't mind a different performance of it....that is infinitely a more simple solution.

One crazy suggestion.

If you have either Soundstudio (built into apple computers of a certain age), or the Adobe audio editing programs that evolved from the CoolEdit ( adobe evolved from cooledit - and soundstudio is a very good knockoff of cooledit that works much the same way) you can put the sound into its frequency spectrum.

The human voice is a surprisingly small range of the spectrum- upper base and lower midrange. Musical instruments cover the whole range of sound frequencies that humans can hear- whole base -the whole midrange- and the overtones of the instruments are in the treble.

So you could try leaving in only the upperbase and lower midrange, and 'notching out'(deleting) everything else- leave in the tail- delete the dog).

The human voices chanting would remain, but most (but probably not all) of the music would be gone.

Would be an interesting expirament anyway.
