Help choosing a tablet device - please !

Hey.

Looking for a suitable device as a pressie for the wife - to be for web surfing / emails etc

She's used to using the family iPad so ideally something with a similar operating system . We use the option of "adding to home-screen " a lot but "create a desktop shortcut " will be just a useful .

Don't want to spend too much £60 to £100 .

Ideally a 10" screen but something smaller will be fine.

I've heard of things like "duel layer " or something that effects the speed ....

Any suggestions , links will be great .

An iPad would be better for her if she's used to it. There's nothing wrong with Android but it takes some getting used to if you've only used iOS. For a budget of £100 Just look on eBay for a cheap Android tablet.

An iPad would be better for her, but you'll definitely not find one in your price range.

If you decide on an Android device, you'd be best to go with a Samsung tablet, as the TouchWiz interface is more similar to iOS than stock Android.

Incidentally what's the smallest "usable" size , don't want something to small tbh .

A 7 or 8 inch screen is probably the smallest screen I'd like on a tablet.

You may want to look at an 8GB, 7 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. It may be a little above your price range, but likely won't find a decent tablet for under £100.

So what do you buys think about the one mentioned above ( and below )

As things stand this Archos 80 Titanium £100 is an early leader ..
Only an 8" screen though , wondering if that's ok for doing a lot of web surfing .

Anyone used an Archos tablet ??

Are they anywhere near as responsive and user friendly as an iPod ??

Looks like we are getting a Hudl then .... It looks adequate for web surfing which is the main point .

If only because we can pay the £119 with £60 of Tesco vouchers ( double value option) ! !

Its only for web surfing and she plays that WORDS game a lot .

Hope it let's her download the WORDS app or else I'll end up having the HUDL

I have never loved a tablet as much as I am in love with my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. There really isn't anything similar to an iPad aside from going with a smaller iPad if you want to spend less money. You'd be able to pick up an Android tablet or even Windows tablet a lot cheaper. The only issue with buying a Samsung device is that they tend to be expensive as well. I guess the same goes for iPads/iPad minis. Something with a simple interface like a Kindle would probably work for her. If you're looking for something off-brand, you could purchase a tablet from China. It'd save you a boatload of money. This is kind of my obsession, so feel free to keep asking questions, lol.
