Last night I had an unfortunate accident that ended up with my 6 month old Alienware Computer screen being broken. It's almost all white now. Is there anything I can do myself? I called a guy and he said it would start at $400 prob be more. How would I find the replacement screen and could I install it? I also read that there is something in the back of the screen that might have also been broken.

(Don't ask me how I did this, it's an embarrassing story!)

This computer was really expensive, I don't want to throw that money away.

Replacing the screen is your only real option. Fortunately, Alienware machines are made to be easier to disassemble and work on than other laptops. I should know this as I actually own one (it's not my primary machine though :P).

Have you tried checking eBay? They usually have replacement parts for Alienware laptops, though be prepared to pay a pretty penny, since Alienwares tend to be geared more towards enthusiasts than casual users. Just type in the make and model of your machine, followed by LCD.

I would never ignore you. Haven't been spending as much time here, and not much in the main forum especially.

Thanks! I tried ebay, but I got kind of confused.

You would need to call them to be sure, but they have 30 some pages of replacement screens.

I would take the time to watch some YouTube videos on LCD repair before attempting the repair yourself.

Things like replacing the hard drive, RAM, optical drive or battery are very simple and don't require any major disassembly. LCD is where things get tricky.

I quite like this video, but it runs for over an hour so don't watch all of it if it's not for you:

You should be able to identify it by flipping it over and reading the badge on the back.

I hope you get your new screen for cheap. 400 bucks is quite a bit of money.

Thanks! Now you know why I was in such a mood when we were talking the other night, I had just smashed it. I was quite upset. Sorry if I was kind of abrupt.
