So the battery life on my laptop has reduced to less than 40% and so it's about time I get a new battery. However, I'm not really keen on buying one from toshiba as they cost somewhere between £40-£70. So I saw that there are companies that make cheaper versions of the battery I need, but I'm not sure if they are reliable.

Specifically, I want to know if Lenoge are a legit company. They claim to sell a battery that is compatible with many different toshiba laptops, including mine (C660-171). The battery costs about £12. It seems way too good to be true.

Can I get some advice?

They have good ratings on Amazon, so it should be okay.

It's hard to say for sure, though. It's your choice.

What about getting a refurbished battery from Toshiba? They cost a bit less but probably don't last as long as a new battery.

As much as I would like to trust amazon, its probably from a merchant seller. I don't typically trust merchant sellers (especially if they only have a few reviews). Also, they may not be legit reviews.

As for getting a refurbished battery from Toshiba, well the battery I own still has some juice in it. It'd be too costly for what I'm getting.

I don't know if they are a legit company, but if they are legit, the low price that they charge may be due to the fact that they refurb batteries with new cells. --If this is the case they will probably want you to send your old battery to them or pay an extra core charge in the same way that auto parts stores do if you don't send your dead battery to them.

That's sensible - and from my experiences with buying batteries, it's better to go for the well-known named brands.

Mine weren't laptop batteries - one was a very cheap "compatible" Li-ion battery for a GPS logger which never seemed to retain a charge and didn't last as long in use as the equally cheap-looking anonymous original: replacing it with a named brand (Duracell) at almost three times the cost resolved all that, and then some - the battery life is now amazing and considerably better than the original.
A similar story with some high-capacity AA Li-ion batteries I got for my flashguns: fantastic in use, utterly hopeless at retaining a charge between uses.
Both were via Amazon and both had good reviews. If only I'd taken more notice of the critical ones...

The moral, certainly WRT batteries, seems to be "they're cheap for a reason, and that reason is: they're crap".
