It looks tempting but I don't want to damage my computer or be tracked forever more simply because I want a good archive of classic music.

Obviously I can't say 100%, but that site is a very well used site and I've also used it myself many times, and I've never heard of people having problems with it.

Btw, the encodings done on their site and most of the time the files already there waiting to be downloaded from someone else previously downloading it.

Pretty sure that YouTube don't like the site but I don't think they're doing anything bad enough for YouTube to be able to do anything about it, the sites been around for at least 5 years id say.

I checked it and found that it uses Google Analytics (datamining) and OpenX (opensource advertisement server). Compared to most websites (which use 10 to 25 spyware and scripting apps), it appears pretty safe. But, if you want a good format-conversion app, try Miro Video Converter http://www.mirovideoconverter.com/ which can convert to-and-from most formats. It is opensource coded and free.

I'm sure there's a Firefox addon that does the same thing. With the NoScript addon, you could also control which scripts you allow. The data mining script is probably not necessary for site functionality; I know because I usually block it and allow other scripts on the same web page.
