I'm building another computer, and am thinking about using it to record and store TV.

I'm looking to both record off an antenna, and also record from a cable box (I'm in the States).

The processor is an AMD AM3+, six core, 3.5ghz. It'll only be running Windows 10 32 bit (at least at first), so it'll likely only be able to handle 4 gigs of RAM, tho' I'm going to install 8 from the start.

I've never done this before. I know there's such a thing as capture cards and software like Windows Media Center (which of course I'll have to find a substitute for now that Windows 10 has killed WMC), but I don't know what to get to make all this happen.

I'll only need to record from the cable box in Standard Def, since I've got an HDMI-to-composite/s-video converter hooked into the cable box already for a DVD recorder. (It also seems to do away with any copy-guard signal...imagine that!) I'm fine with that.

I just don't know what all I'll need with regards to additional hardware and software. Oh... The motherboard doesn't have an HDMI output, so I got this card as part of the build...

Hopefully not a bad choice and hopefully it won't mess with a capture card working?

Any help/advice/direction you can give...

You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".

These years I wouldn't do what you planned. TV's themselves record from the antenna onto a USB stick now so would investment there be better? or a cable box upgrade to one that records?

But that's not that you can't do it! ;) Since I know nothing of the US or it's standards what I suggest you do first is look what your antenna broadcasting standard is and also your cable transmission standard. Then you can look for devices to capture those for those standards. Worry about PC last ;)
