Here's one to watch!
(NB:I realize that 99.999999% of humans don't care

So this young man from Canada has 5 Gold medals and 1 Bronze medal in the IMO and is ranked Number 1(all time) in the IMO Hall of Fame!
The IMO started in 1959 and has seen some of the very best Mathematicians of all time, including Grigori Perelman(Field's Medal, solved the Poincare Conjecture) and Terence Tao(Field's Medal, Clay Research Award)(btw, Terry Tao's brother is an autistic savant). Many of the Field's Medalists are former IMO medalists.

Yes. Those are awesome scores, which is sort of an understatement.
He was also at the most 13 when he started going to the IMO which is very impressive.

Quite right!
He achieved a bronze at age 13 in his first competition...that alone is a triumph!
But then to achieve 5 consecutive Golds
and a perfect score facing the pressure of breaking the world record and retirement...WOWOW!!He is a phenomenal talent...truly brilliant
There are easily a dozen Fields Medalist that he surpassed in his IMO career.
Princeton is lucky to have him.
I'm surprised he didn't go to Trinity College...I'll bet they courted him for years

Perhaps if competitors from the UK, US etc. were pushed as much as this man pushed himself then they would be able to get better scores.
In Asia, especially China, the countries do really well in the IMO. According to Beautiful Young Minds (2006) if one did not get a gold medal at the IMO the other teammates would laugh at that person.
In the UK, US, Canada etc you are considered very good if you get a bronze. Only a small percentage of participants actually get medals.
