My turn to start "a what does everyone else have" thread...

I bought a Cyberhome CH-DVD-300 from Radio Shack back in august 2003 for a mere $60 dollars.

I've been happy with it's performance. It's one of those asian designed units so it plays almost anything I put into it, even raw MPEG-2 files, although it's MP3 playback leaves something to be desired.

I have some sort of Chinese DVD player that my sister-in-law brought over from Shanghai. It's region-free, plays NTSC or PAL (and converts between the two so I can watch PAL DVDs on my NTSC television), and plays VCD, SVCD and MP3 disks as well. The only down-side is that the remote has no English labels. I've figured out what most of the buttons do....

I've got this SKY home cinema progressive scan thing I got with my (hugely expensive) plasma TV package - its not state of the art (unlike my telly *smug mode* :)), but it does the job. I've also got 2 old (non-progressive scan) DVD players (a multi-region Panasonic and a region 2 SONY) that I don't need anymore but which aren't worth the hassle of selling as I'd only get maybe 30 quid apiece for them - its obscene how much the price of DVD players has fallen the last few years..... I've also got a PS2 and an Xbox (and my PC), so I'm not short of DVD players all things considered.....

Panasonic. Got it 2 years ago based on the raves I got about its picture quality. It's got a great deinterlacer that's not in current players. Watching stuff on my HDTV...heaven. I should do it more often! :)

I have 3 DVD players. The first one is a Panaconic, which can only play region 4. My second one is a cheap Sonwa DVD player that playes all DVDs. And the third is a Sony DVD/VCR combo unit that playes all regions. I also have a computer that can play DVDs. I use the free VLC Player.

did you modify it yourself or did someone else do it?

dang, i wish mine could.

I have a 100 buck Daewoo that i've had for like 4 years. won't play discs that i've made that I've put music videos on (having made those while bored). But I also have an Apex that is even older that my Daewoo that my stepdad gave me after having bought a DVD player with a surround sound system. The discs work just fine in that one.

Considering I have a projector hooked up the computer, with a nice 85" screen in my bedroom and 65" in our RV, I use my desktop or my laptop to play everying. Xine all the way! :D

I also have a Sony dream system suround sound with a built in 5 disk changer, but I use that mostly for CDs (who watches 5 DVDs in a row?), and just output the sound from my computer to the inputs on it.

I've been thinking about getting a projector too (there seems to be a good deal on a PJ-TX200 right now). I have a DVB-receiver in my computer so I could lose the big tube-tv altogether. Bad thing is my apartment is a bit too small and I can't find a bigger one.
I already have an AV-receiver and front speakers, and plan on getting center a back ones.
