Freedom 251 smartphone launches tomorrow for ~$3.51 American (at the current exchange rate).


It will be first launched in India with no word on international plans.

The company says it's smartphone will revolutionize the industry.

It sports a 4-inch 960×560 display, a 1.3 GHz quadcore processor (manufacturer unknown), and a 1450mAh battery. It comes with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory, with micro SD card support up to 32GB. There's a 3.2-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3MP front camera.

The Freedom 251 runs Android 5.1, and offers a range of pre-installed apps: global ones such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and YouTube, along with others designed for the Indian market. These include Women Safety, Swachh Bharat ("a mass movement for cleanliness"), and vertical apps aimed at those in the health, farming, and fishing sectors. Sales of the Freedom 251 start in India tomorrow, Thursday February 18, at 6am local time.

Will Android users flock to the sub $7 phone that rivals their phone in specs after years of complaining about smartphones being too overpriced?

How much is the service for it though, I mean some companies here give 'free' phones but then the service runs you over 60 dollars a month.

In India service is vastly cheaper, mainly due to the Indian government subsidizing and regulation the crap out of it. '

You can actually cell phone service in the U.S. in most states for less than $30, if you are willing to go to a regional and/or smaller carrier

Though they come with very limited amounts of texts and minutes though no data.

My iPhone plan costs $40 through AT&T with a 2GB data plan (calling and texting is on the family line, data line is separate).

You can literally cancel all the extra stuff you are charged for on your cell plan, if you are willing to deal with them over it at the big 4 carriers.
Though you need to go line by line through your bill to find them.

That's how my iPhone plan is $40 while being on a family line.

If you're poor enough and meet the requirements you can get a free basic cell plan (very limited) paid for the by federal government.

Well that is India, I imagine if the phone took off internationally including here...the service here wouldn't be much less than it typically is now. But through MetroPCS I have an android smart phone for $40 a month and no need to go through getting rid of extra stuff...it even includes the mobile hot-spot now.

I think the only more local/regional company around my area is Cricket, but they kind of suck.

If you don't need the data plan and just rely on WIFI for your data needs, then you can halve your bill or further.

I mean if you rarely text or use minutes, you can get very cheap plan.

I mean I don't use my iPhone for talking or texting for the most part, so drawing from the family line doesn't bother. me.
Though i do use data mainly, which the bulk of the price.

Now only if I could figure out what is eating my data on my iPhone
Something on my new iPhone is eating data, yet have everything but safari turned off for cell data.

Any way of getting one of these in North America? I'd love to see what one of these phones can do.
