my portable (an old one)'s heating system has to be cleaned (the computer falls out, it's the same thing as i had last year, and a friend of mine who has the same kind of computer has the same problem, so i'm pretty sure that's what's wrong)

but i have no time and no money to bring it to a shop because i need the computer right away to finish my essay

so i'd like to do it myself but haven't touched the inside of a computer yet, not even looked at it or opened it (although i had a class called 'architecture of a computer' last year, which was the stupiest class ever, cause i didn't learn anything, while there are so much things i would love to learn)

i don't even know what it's called, so even giving me a few cluewords to google would help me too

call your computer's technical support.
I worked at Gateway tech support in portables for three years and most of those babies are not made for casual opening. Find out if they will walk you through it. Always remember to use compressed air in a arisol can to blow the air across it, never a vacuum to draw the air across it ( negative and positive ions, repectively and if you have ever been in a Santa Ana wind, or a Mistral or a Sirocco you will know that positive ions are not good and negative ions are like next to a waterfall or the ocean and excellent)

once you get in there, the issue should be self evident and you can clean it with alcohol on qtips. The trick is to get in there with out voiding the warranty and (if the warranty is toast) BEING ABLE TO CLOSE IT and keep it closed, again.

and take the battery out! if you have to use it before you can get it cleaned, put it on electricity and take the battery out, it just heats it up.

could you explain a little what you mean by this?
i'm not english and have the feeling that there are some words missing in this sentence which has as a result that i don't know what it says.

don't you have some 'keywords' (cause i don't know what this heating-thing (ventilator?) is called) so that i can search for a visual scheme or something?

Ok, i think he means, use a can of air to blow the dust off the motherboard/heatsink/fan. Don't use the vacumn as it will create static and damage it.

ow, 'a can' , now i see, so vacuum is a vacuum cleaner i suppose, hm i guess it's too late, will remember it for the next time, hope there is not too much damage done.

the man on the helpdesk just said that there is nothing to open in a laptop and that i should just clean it from the outside holes (can't believe it and they charge me for that when i let this do in the shop?)

i believe merle is a woman, dingodv, ;-)
the battery doesn't work anymore anyway, so can i just leave it out always?

it's still warming up, i have the impression, but slower, so i have been able to send my work which was the most important thing.

don't know, i'll keep an eye on it.

it doesn't warm up anymore, i'm playing music and working for several hours and it doesn't shut down either,

i just can't believe that i had to pay for such a stupid thing when i brought it in to the shop,
they could have told it was a simple thing and tell me how to do it.
