4th-Gen iPod touch won't charge!

I donno how many of you on WP are repairmen, but here goes...

So, here's the story. I own a 4th generation iPod touch 32GB model, but as of yesterday, the darn thing won't charge! I had another one a few years back that met the same fate. I tried replacing the battery and the charging port (and even the screen which broke), but it didn't solve the non-charging problem. What should I do, and why did the previous one I own make the same problem of not charging despite my best efforts?

Does the device show that it's charging from the indicator on the screen, or do you plug it in and the battery indicator doesn't change?

If you turn on the percentage indicator for the battery (settings - general - usage) does the percentage change when charging?

The 30 pin connector on these is also known to go bad resulting in incorrect signalling of status.

^ I see. I decided that in the end, replacing the iPod altogether would be more cost-effective than repairing it.
