Not sure what is to blame,so couldn't be any more specific than that.

Specs-
Acer Travelmate 5520 laptop/notebook
Windows Vista-premium
AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK-53 dual core processor
1GB DDR2 memory
ATI Radeon Xpress 1250
CrystalEye built in camera
120gb HD
All the usual bits [dvdrw etc]

One of the problems it has,is sometimes, the screen will go black, but the computer and the fans is still running,am wondered whether this sounded like graphics card overheating, but then if it's turned off and turned back on,it's fine-picture normal,am also wondered whether this could be a vista bug, think might have heard something about vista and laptops with picture going black a long while ago but cannot remember if this was definite.

Another problem,in the tool bar at the bottom [bottom right part, forget what it's called],every day the laptop is booted,it seems to be very random with what icons it loads, and sometimes it leaves out some needed ones, like the battery icon-so it ends up shutting down without am knowing as it hadn't given a warning, and the volume icon [can't seem to find the basic volume settings anywhere else],and the icons that show internet is on.

Another problem is sometimes, the scroll button on the laptop doesn't work [which am relie on a lot] it might be related to the problem above,as these things happen randomly together.
When the scroll button isn't working,if the synaptics pointing device icon [that is part of the scroll?] is there,it won't pop up it's information, doesn't react to clicking at all.

Does anyone know what the problems are and what to do apart from getting rid of vista?

Did you upgrade to Vista, or is this a new laptop that came bundled with the current OS? In other words, did the problems only begin after you switched to Vista?

Are you still covered under warranty because its very difficult to repair a laptop?

The wireless card on my laptop stopped working so I sent it to HP and they fixed it and returned it free of charge.

If there is something wrong with the graphics card then you will have to get the motherboard replaced as I think that graphics chip is built-in to the motherboard.
