My camera only takes .qt or .MOV video and my computer's movie maker can't read.

Are there any good free video converters out there?

try changing the file type, by renaming it to .avi instaed of .mov or what mine shows .3g2 which is a Quick time file, works fine. if your not sure just make a copy of the file and convert that

By far the best video conversion tool out there I've found is TMPGEnc, it can handle pretty much anything you give it and if you have a multicore processor it will use all cores.

If your in the mood to go all out, you can look into avisynth with virtualdub or MeGUI, any video file you can playback with directshow you will be able to encode as well as apply other filters like cropping and colour correction.

It is a sort of scripting language, so if your looking for an easy wizard then I would avoid.
