Do you think that brains are merely decoders?

Do you think that there is a sort of separate kind of 'universe' that our brains aren't capable of properly decoding? Do you suppose that perhaps the human brain has filters which prevents us from seeing life as it 'truly' is? Lets say that if there was a device that was capable of seeing everything 'as it is', do you think it would see things differently than a human would see things? After all, every human sees things in a different way, perhaps there is a way of seeing things without 'filters'.

you'd have to talk to a psychologist or neurologist to be sure, but...

as I understand it, there's a region of the brain that 'mirrors' sensory information, and 'allows us to see ourselves as others see us'. This portion is either not active, or active on a low level, to many who post here.

As for the senses, they depend on the body to supply information. I'm sure there's more out there to the universe, but not having the input, it's hard to say. The decoding part is only a small portion of what the brain does...

Well, I would say, yes, my vision could not develop normally and thus my vision developed differently. I know that there are certain patterns, that I can not decode correctly without getting artifacts, where others have no issues. The latest artificial vision systems also suffer from the same optical illusions that we do, which is interesting.

I would say yes, the brain we have been equipped with could be viewed as a really huge super processing center. I read somewhere the brain processes upward of 8GBs a day. Now if only we could close our eyes and access a mental task manager, that would be helpful. The brain as of yet, is still standing as the ultimate computer. We could use a mental GUI, now that I think about it. Just think of all the complex things that we are able to process, such as a simple looking muscle movement, but yet the exact moment we think about moving something, a electric pulse races up and down, quickly sending and receiving information.
