I have it, and I've always had this problem.

When I leave my computer, I will sign out. When I come back later, I'll be signed in and have a few people trying to message me and get pissed off when I don't answer.

Are there any solutions to this?

You could exit the program instead of just signing out

Do what I do, set your status to "appear offline" when you're not sitting there.

Actually I keep mine set there most of the time, usually only changing it to send files.
Because I can't remember to change it when I wander off, which I do frequently.

It still switches on me even then. In fact, I even have my messenger set to automatically appear offline upon sign-in.

That's bizarre. That only happens to me when my computer reboots.
If someone PMs me it's not a problem. I just tell them I was afk.

Sign out, select "sign in as appear-offline" Then when the connection is lost, it will sign you in as appear offline.
