i recently saw this film and it captivated me so thoroughly about the way we are often taught to be conformists at a young age and never discover the freedom of making mistakes and then learning about the worth of our lives.

i'm sure people in their twenties or thirties or even younger have seen this or movies like it and feel so driven to tears but even more feel their lives at least change to know that there is an option of knowing that "rebelling" in some forms of the word is the only way of getting out of the wings of parents who aren't sensitive enough to see that forgiveness and living through trial and error are the staples of the way life should be led, and the english teacher Robin Williams plays in this movie really represents, as well as the actors for the students do, how lives can be changed by the power of self expression and living high on the joy of independence.

i'll never forget having seen this movie literally for more than one day before this was written and would love to just recommend this movie to anyone who needs a tear jerker and one that will release them from the pain they feel about those close to them who controlled them or eventually let them free from troubles. it's one HECK of an amazing movie, whether you think it's no different that an autistic would be interested than an NT or not.

If you have any feelings to share pertaining to memories associated with the movie, rants and raves, whatev, please share them.

if you haven't seen it, look at the trailer.

this is definitely a rewarding movie, even if it never got awarded :(

I was just thinking about this movie over the long weekend and about Neil who's special interest was acting and his parents didn't accept that part of him. His father in particular. The part of the movie that I remember the most was when his dad was lecturing him and saying that no son of his was going to be a poet or an actor. His dad kept on asking him what he was thinking about and he'd better not be thinking about the play and the stage. He was sent to his room and than he put a bullet to his head and committed suicide because his parents didn't support his special interest.

"Dead Poets Society is not available to watch instantly" (stupid Netflix!)

I would like to see this movie again. I haven't seen it since it first came out.

Carpe Diem!

Probably in my top 3 favorite movies of all time. I still cry like a little school girl at the end of that movie =/.

I also find it pretty amusing, a few more of my favorite movies of all time are 'Awakenings' and 'The Fisher King.' Those along with 'Dead Poets Society' are 3 movies that always make me tear up, just amazing and sad stories that always hit me and all 3 star Robyn Williams lol.
As a comedic actor he can take a hike, but of his serious roles, 3 of them are in movies that each have a spot probably in my top 10 favorite movies, maybe even 5, of all time.

Good movie. Interesting seeing Robert Sean Leonard as Neil again after getting so used to knowing him as Dr. Wilson on House.

We saw it every year in high school. In fact, "Carpe Diem" was my graduating class's motto (1998).

I have this movie on DVD.

I agree, this is great movie! So many good movies came out in the 90's, wish I could say the same about the following decades...

You should write that short story to Robin Williams, bet he'd send you an autograph. 8)
