Devil's Gate.

An FBI agent, with the help of a local deputy, search for a missing woman and her son in an isolated rural area, in which the religious fanatic husband is the chief suspect. The husband blames fallen angels for abducting his family, but the truth is just as fantastic.
Great sci-fi/horror film.

the devil's brigade [1968] - relatively gung-ho and frank [for its day] look at the creation of the u.s. army special forces.

I watched Imagine (a documentary made by John Lennon and Yoko Ono). It wasn't great.

I also watched a documentary about the guy who found and recovered the wreck of Bluebird K7 from the bottom of Coniston Water. That was fascinating and exciting. I watched a movie about Donald Campbell when I was a kid and it affected me a lot. It had never occurred to me that they would have just left the wreck (and the body) where it was and I missed news of its discovery/recovery when it happened in 2001.

Last night we watched:

The Loneliest Boy in the World [2022]

Meet Oliver. He's odd. We don't know much about him. We don't know much about his father except that he has apparently been dead and gone for some time. All we know about his mother is that she kept Oliver completely isolated at home. And he has no friends and no social skills.

Then an accident kills Oliver's mother. After which Oliver apparently spent about a year in a psychiatric institution and we don't know much about that, either.

But Oliver was eventually allowed to return home even though the psychiatric staff was not unanimously sure that was a good idea. They periodically visit him to see how he is doing.

Problem: All he does is watch TV and then go to his mother's gravestone and report what had been on the shows the day before. He is socially inept. He has no social life and no friends. He is targeted by bullies (and seems somewhat oblivious to it!). There are no signs he is improving.

He conscientiously posts a daily goal on his calendar, "Be normal", but when the psychiatric staff informs him that if he doesn't make any friends he will be put back in the institution the daily goal changes to "Find a friend"...and then he conscientiously crosses it out the next day because he did not make any friends.

Oliver also takes language very literally. And one of the psychiatric staff tells him to dig a friend up...



This movie is strange, weird, nonsensical, absurd, and a lot of fun!

IMDb lists its genres as comedy and horror. Don't expect much horror. Do expect much fun.

(It starts out slow, as it gets the story-line set up. Be patient!)

We both really liked the film!!
