Good horror Animes That AREN'T too mature.

I like supernatural/horror type animes. I can deal with blood and stuff, but I can't deal with nudity or sex scenes, no matter how mild. I'm one of the very few anime fans my age who's NOT into that (or at least at my school). Please request animes you've watched the WHOLE series, I've watched an anime once that was fine for 16 episodes and then suddenly turned disgusting, I don't want that to happen again.

You're one of the very few human beings in existance that isn't interested in sex - indeed, aversive to sex.

I can think of one really good one but I can't remember if it had any nudity or not, and I only watched season 1 so I can't speak for the rest of it...

It was called Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. The mystery/horror elements are very well done, and they supplement those with basically slice of life - the main characters school and extra curricular activities. At first it seemed out of place and awkward to switch between them but in some cases it does work... anyway, that might be one to watch. The emphasis is definitely NOT on sex or nudity, to my knowledge. Or even romance, really.

The one I really recomend is Ghost Hunt LINK.
It is definetly the best horror anime that I have seen, also the only one that has actually scared me, it is really cool.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica could be one if you are familiar with the magical girl genre, its first appearance is deceptive. LINK.

If you are mostly interested in the monsters, then I could recomend Nurarihyon no Mago, some of the monsters are good guys, and the main character is around your age. LINK

Otherwise I am watching a new show called Another at the moment, I think it is unlikely that there will be any sex or nudety based on the characters, though so far it is only up to its third episode, it is creepy in a good way. LINK

Well I would think some stuff (sex and nudity) can be rather distracting when all you want to watch is a good horror, for example I would say it really took away from Highschool of the Dead which is very ecchi. Its like I wanted to see anime characters take on zombies, but all the girls have humongous breasts that would make a lot of what they do impracticle, lots of panty shots, clothe damage, an scantly dressed zombie girls.

I have not seen Higurashi but I have come across some pictures and some knowledge about it. Putting the name and "gore" into google images brings up a particular picture with crows.

A good anime movie could be Blood: The Last Vampire, although it is kind of short for a movie it is pretty cool, I know there was a series inspired from it, and a live action adaption.

You should check out Kara no Kyoukai (a k a The Garden of Sinners).
I wouldn´t say it´s scary (but then I rarely think anything is), but it has a nice dark feel to it.
There´s also the "pulp fiction" storytelling, the six episodes/movies are not in chronological order, so at first it can be a little confusing.
The protagonist has a rather interesting trait, she can "see the death" of anything that is alive (this was also used in Lunar legend Tsukihime by the same author).
And there is nothing ecchi whatsoever in it.

We're not talking about strange proportions though. And no I don't believe it's 'distracting'. I have absolutely no idea why the OP is so afraid of stumbling across nudity. Might as well give up on tv altogether, the way it's heading..

Haha, yes, I saw the strategically placed crow. It's not designed to be sexy or sensual or anything like that, if that's the problem. Besides, everything's covered.

I don't see what's so weird about being shy of nudity. It's such a taboo that even when it doesn't personally bother people, many still feel dirty for watching something with it.

I don't really watch horror anime, though, so I can't recommend any. I don't think I could really watch something like Higurashi, based on some descriptions I've heard. To me, dark works work best when they're used to emphasize more positive messages, like Evangelion, so I just don't get why horror is so popular. I'm thinking about checking out Madoka, though, as I heard that it breaks from the magical girl mold, for the most part, while still remaining a bonafide magical girl show, which is something I can respect.

(Any recommendations for scary titles that aren't depressing would be interesting, though I can't say that watching any would be high on my priority list)

I highly recomend Ghost Hunt for scary, as for being depressing well most of the ghost's issues were a period of time in the past, I would say with the exception of one child, but seeing the ghost haveing a bit of fun makes it a bit better.

I can't really bring myself to watch big depressing fests, except with romance, where people don't go around killing each other.

I am also a fan of Hellsing, though some bits can be mature, like a guy talking about skull humping, and a character's past watching her parents killed in front of her including her mother dead corpse being used. But is a good series with the good guys arguably being able to turn into bigger monsters. Though the manga made me feel a little messed up when I read a lot of it in one sitting. And definetly washes your of the aweful taste of sparkely vampires.

Hellsing isn't really horror though. It's just an action series with dark, supernatural themes. It's closer to comedy than horror. Out of curiosity which one did you prefer, the original series or the OVAs?

Well there are people ripped apart and stuff. My favourite is definetly the OVAs, but it is best to watch series first, there is a problem that the OVAs have not been finished, but I have read the manga.

I prefer the original series. Music was better, characters are better. The OVAs did this weird thing where 'for jokez' the characters would be depicted as... I don't know, really basic, weird drawings and say stupid stuff. Haha, I know that's a bad description but I have no idea what else I can say... I'll just say their 'jokes' ruined it for me. And the action just isn't as good as it was in the original.

The change in style I guess matches the style of some of the extras of the manga, since the OVAs were so suposed to be a more complete adaption of the manga, and I guess decided to break from the first anime by staying true. I guess I found that it kind of anoying with the style change, but I didn't let it distract too much, the part with the gun's spirit is even funier when you Alucard meeting his own.

As for action, the series is more uncensored, and when Seras actually unlocks her true potentiel is amazing, I am hoping the dub picks up again so that I can see Sera's true power, the werewolf, and the battle between the Angel of Death and Girlycard.

That doesn't make the Hellsing OVA's any less awesome. And 14 is old enough to watch, in my opinion. I'll still remember going to an anime convention when I was 16, to see the first screening of the first episode of the OVA, and the meet and greet with Kohta Hirano. It was hilarious to see someone stand up, criticize his work, and then everyone else in the room rabidly turn on them. Honestly thought there was going to be a riot. Lol.

Hellsing used to be my major special interest alongside another vampire anime, Trinity Blood, when I was between the ages of 16 and 19. I don't know if I could ever get back into them though; Hellsing seems to be a little too dark for me at this stage in my life. It's dark for darkness' sake, and I prefer dark movies/tv shows that are more uplifting, like Tim Burton's stuff. And although my love for Trinity Blood once blinded me to its flaws, now that it's no longer a special interest, I can see why it wasn't as critically-praised or as popular as Hellsing.

Its hard to find anime dedicated to horror that is actually...decent or scary. Hellsing rarely dissapoints. It depends on what you find frightening, really. Paranoia Agent? Gets CREEEEPY. Perfect Blue? Also creepy and in the end, terrifying. Ummmm, can't think of anything else off the top of my head.
