I remember this TV movie called "The Day After", a dramatization of what a possible nuclear exchange would be like. Centered on a small town in Kansas. It originally aired back in 1983 I think, on broadcast TV. I've seen many horror flicks, this probably is scarier than any of those.

I saw that when it first ran when I was in my teen years. Scared the poop out if me.

My Dad had been a huge Lovecraft fan, and so I grew up with his retelling of the Cthulhu Mythos, which really spawned the most magnificently horrific images in my head. He had apparently been afraid Lovecraft would scare me at that tender age, so he told me to wait till I was older before I read his stuff. So, I never got to read Lovecraft till high school and college - and I've been hooked ever since.

Somehow I didn't read any Lovecraft until High School. Then when I was in Uni, I bought paperback editions of ALL his stories. If you have any doubts about how loved he is, just google collectible Lovecraft books and prepare your jaw to drop.

I also liked H.P. Lovecraft as far as books go.

For some stupid reason I still feel uneasy if I happen to stumble across Event Horizon on tv. I've no idea why I find that movie to be so creepy.

I've been reading Lovecraft short stories before bed every night for about a month.
I've had some pretty wild dreams as a result.

Also,
I saw a Lovecraft movie last year,
this teenager somehow goes back in time, and meets HP Lovecraft walking through a forest. The kid is wearing a T-Shirt with Lovecrafts face on it, and Lovecraft comments on how peculiar it is to have his face on a shirt. The kid tells him about how famous he becomes in the future.
If I can remember the name of the film I'll post it here.
It was a pretty good indie film.

I'd have to say the movies that scared me the most were 'The Thing' and 'Poltergeist'. I saw them at too young an age, and they left a lasting impression.
