Tim Burton made to the movies that I grew up with (Beetlejuice and Batman), and he has shown to be a very capable filmmaker with the likes of Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, and Mars Attacks (Which I think in criminally underrated.).

And I saw some pics for his upcoming adaptation of Alic in Wonderland, and it looks OK, but I'd rather see him go back to making that Ripley's Believe it or Not flick that he was going to make with Jim Carrey. That would make for a interesting flick.

Hello Veresae (Hi-jacking the Tim Burton thread, I know, sorry!) ...but if you like the idea of a darker, menacing version of Alice in Wonderland, I was sent the link to the reviews of Jan Svankmajer's version of Alice...featuring stop motion taxidermied animals etc...so here it is

Click me

I wish I could see the actual film, will have to get round to it...

I actually saw that movie when I was a kid, wasn't that big on it even though I've always loved stop-motion. It's very strange but the aesthetics themselves aren't that dark...too much white everywhere. XD Not saying it's bad, just not my cup of tea. Good luck finding it though.

One of my biggest complaints of Tim Burton's movies is his constant choice of using Danny Elfman for the music. I don't know what it is, but a lot of times, his scores just grate on my nerves.

Aww I love Danny Elfman. At least I used to. His more recent scores (Hellboy 2, Terminator: Salvation, Wanted, The Kingdom, etc.) have been lame as hell, and usually don't even sound like him. And when will he learn that if he's not coming up with memorable themes of his own for established properties, to use the original themes that people loved in the first place. Seriously, Hellboy and Terminator both have some extremely memorable themes that were not by him...but he didn't use them for his recent sequel scores. >.<

I consider myself a fan, so it surprised me that I really don't have a favorite full-length film of his. I like parts and bits and maybe huge sections, but no whole movies. Well, I like Corpse Bride a lot, but still, there's a lot of singing. I do like Danny Elfman although it gets a little silly when he sings everything himself! I thought his versions of the songs in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were brilliant (it's hard to do worse than the earlier film). I do like that version, but I don't really think the book has ever had a spot-on adaptation.

Really, my favorite film of Tim Burton's is Vincent, though it's only little.

I'm a massive Tim Burton fan. In fact, when I was 14, I saw his version of Charlie and the Chocolate factory and realised how much I really loved filmmaking and how my love for film and animation wasn't just a passtime.

I have seen some bad Burton films, but for the most part, I can really identify with his work. Sometimes I think it's a little risky when he "Burtonises" very much loved stories, but it works somehow (I don't care what anyone else says- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was awesome!).

My favourite Burton films are Big Fish, Vincent, Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood.

I would say "The Nightmare Before Christmas" but that counts as a Henry Selick film (which I obsessively watched over and over again in my childhood). I could really identify with Jack Skellington's idealism.

I love Tim Burtons stuff. After seeing him do Sweeny Todd I think he would be perfect to direct the Wicked movie musical.

I completely forgot he did Big Fish. Okay, so I do have a favorite!

Yes, it is--if you can find it. See, IGN leaked the trailer, then was asked to pull it off, but people had already downloaded it. Now more people keep uploading it to youtube and it keeps getting removed. You'll find a LOT of dead links, and the working ones aren't the best resolution. It's lovely though and I can't wait to see it in HD Quicktime.

Let's see how long this one lasts:

As for me... I dunno. My eyes were pleased. My imagination thought it was okay. My reader was uncomfortable. My writer was scandalized, especially at seeing yet another 20-something-looking Alice.. I have many facets to my personality. It would take all day to get every opinion in here.

But I think that if I ever get a book published, I will be very hesitant should anyone ask to make a film of it. I'm sick of seeing film adaptations that I can only enjoy after numerous excuses and allowances are made for all the changes and omissions and interpretations.

But my eyes were pleased.

And my ears, though they were sure they'd heard it somewhere before, didn't mind too much.

That's good, because mine didn't last long!

I was just watching Edward Scissorhands again... and being reminded of why I can't consider it a favorite. It's a deeply uncomfortable movie. If most of it took place in the mansion on the hill, I'd find it charming. Instead, it's steeped in suburbia. Crivens, but I recognize his struggle! Innocent and craving the company of warm humans, he gropes for some connection only to be thrown back to his solitude by his glaring differences and misunderstandings he can't seem to clarify or resolve. They make a show of appreciating his uniqueness but turn like beasts to savage him when he fails to fit into the mold they have cast. There are a few genuinely kind people among them, and a few pure evil people. Coming here, I've seen how many others have lived with a kind of gift/curse and found themselves repeatedly thrown out for it.

Seems young Mr. Burton had a wee axe to grind, eh? I'd love to see what he could do with a movie about schoolteachers.

Big Fish is probably the most underrated of all of his movies.
The movie is, for use of much better words, not like Tim Burton.

Am psyched for 9 and Alice in Wonderland!

Haven't seen all of Tim Burton's movies, especially Sweeney Todd.

I love Sleepy Hollow, Batman, Batman Returns, and Corpse Bride.

I didn't like Big Fish that much. It was okay, but the fact that it wasn't Tim Burton-y made me not like it. If it kept that dark gothic aesthetic I would have liked it way more...but then, the aesthetic is why I like Burton in the first place. But it was well made and very creative at times.

Agreed! Corpse Bride has AMAZING animation but...the story just isn't that good and neither are the songs. It says something when a film feels overlong at 75 minutes!
