I - horrendous. no main character, no real story. jar jar binks is annoying.

II - horrendous too. at times both better and worse than I. horrible dialouge and ok action scenes

III - horrible. not as bad as the others in the prequels, but still king of s**t mountain. horrible dialouge, good, but repetitive action scenes, story is a random mess

IV - good. effects aren't that good by today's standards, lightsaber fight was bad, vader's voice was weird, everything else was good

V - great. except for the horrible ending.

VI - good. ewoks were cool, lightsaber fight was ok, death star was cool, everything else was good

I gotta tell you - - I hated the Ewoks in VI. They were the movie's biggest flaw, in that they were the forerunners of Jar Jar Binks and the other stomach churning cutsies Lucas decided to inflict the prequels with. Otherwise, I'd put Return Of The Jedi up there with The Empire Strikes Back, which I consider to be the pinnacle of the Star Wars series.

My ranking of the films from best to worst.
V
IV
VI
II
III
I

I - Beyond Terrible, I mean there were absolutely no redeeming qualities about it, I mean the jedis were idiots, the kid Jake Lloyd who played Anakin is one of the worst child actors I have ever seen (they should have got Haley Joel Osment), The annoying droids, The plot holes, the annoying politics, terrible script, horrible story, pod racing and of course the ever hated Jar Jar.

II - This one wasn't good by any means but at least I felt it was somewhat watchable (imo probably the best of the prequels). It was extremely dull at times, but I did like some of the things in it such as the young Boba Fett as his turn to evil watching his father killed (which I really wanted them to follow up in the third movie by maybe him killing Mace Windu or something (even though I love Mace Windu), I also enjoyed seeing Anakins first taste of the dark side when he killed the tribe of sand people, However I cannot Hayden Christenson and despise his portrayal of Anakin and any movie he does in general due to his lack of acting ability.

III - This one moved at a better pace than the second one but isn't anywhere near as good (which isn't saying much at all as I didn't even think that one was good) I felt they overused the CGI, I felt they tried to cram way too much into it, episode 3 probably had the worst dialog out of all the films, I also hated the ret*d love story, And Anakins turn the the dark side of unrealistic and ridiculous as well as all the issues that plagued the first to like the droids, and the politics :(.

IV - Good movie that moved at a good pace but while it was a fun movie I really don't think of it as a perfect film but at least it is better than the prequels

V - Perfection, Absolute perfection.

VI - Meh... I honestly wasn't a big fan of episode 6, I hated the Ewoks, I felt the ending was stupid and it just wasn't the perfect (or even a good) conclusion that the trilogy should have gotten.

I didn't like the ending in V. i thought VI wasn't as good as V, but is a decent conclusion to the trilogy.

V= Episode 5 has always been my favorite Star Wars Movie as well as my favorite movie of all time. The story, dialogue, and everything else were just perfect. I can't say anymore. I can't watch it without sobbing for some reason, even when it's not sad.
IV=Same as Episode 5, but for some reason, I like it less.
VI=Very, very good. I really liked the battle over Endor and Vader's redemption. The Ewoks didn't bother me and still don't. However, I for some reason don't like it as much as the other movies.
III=It has it's moments, but this is still a very good movie. The effects were nice, it had the most lightsaber scenes, it was really dark, and Hayden's acting had improved.
II=The love story sucked, and we were made to view the Seperatists as evil, despite the movie never telling us why they're evil. Hayden sucked.
I: The plot was a mess. It made very little sense. Additionally, even as a child, I didn't know who the hell the protagonist was supposed to be. Obi-wan was there, just there. He barely did anything. The acting wasn't that bad, except for Jake Lloyd's and Natalie Portman's, but Jake was a kid. Jar Jar never annoyed me. However, I hated that he along with Watto and the Neimoidians were caricatures of ethnic groups. Darth Maul, like Obi-Wan, was just there. He barely spoke, he just sat there looking cool or showed off with his unique staffsaber Juyo style of lightsaber combat. Also, as a kid, I noticed how different it was from the feel of the OT.

And the romance between Leia and Han was much more realistic than the romance between Padmé and Anakin. I have a friend who actually prefers the prequel trilogy because he finds the romance between Anakin and Padmé to be more realistic and cuter but it's just unbearable.

I want to say : "Oh please !" In Episode II, she is wearing an outfit that just looks pretty uncomfortable and I'm pretty sure it was supposed to make her look more attractive... while she knows Anakin want to have sex with her (no, I don't believe he's in love with her, he's sexually attracted by her at the beginning and he's basically a 19 years old who never really got a chance to touch a woman so...) and she still rejects him ? That's totally unreaslitic. Plus, it's cheesy and Padmé lost all her personnality in this relationship. The way she dies is ridiculous, she knows something terrible is happening and she just had twins yet she dies because her heart is broken ? Come on...
It's just a badly written dramatic scene which has nothing to do with the atmosphere of the first movies.

Sure, the lightsaber, the space and all... it's amazing, wonderfully done... Yet I do prefer the old movies which are just as impressive in my opinion, in which you actually laugh, where the main character isn't a stupid teenager with a huge ego and where everything isn't supposed to be perfect.

And I hate gungans. Jar-Jar Binks is annoying, I don't enjoy this kind of humour and they didn't succeed in creating a goofy characters, he's annoying, he has no credibility, they could have given him a brain it wouldn't have ruined the character. The ewoks were primitives yet realistic and funny, they didn't bother me as much as the gungans do.

I love Leia, she has a strong personality for a woman (I mean, it's interesting historically because before women were supposed to be weak and it took time for them to have this kind of role on TV), she is intelligent and I even prefer her physically to her mother. Luke was naive at first, which makes him perfect. Han is awesome. Chewbacca was a great character. Yoda's personnality is more interesting in the original trilogy but the prequel trilogy makes it incoherent.

Obi-Wan has always been my favourite character, I have to admit that they didn't ruined him in the prequel trilogy but I like Ewan McGregor so I'm not objective.

Just like ShenLong, I didn't know Anakin was supposed to be Darth Vader, I learnt it later when I grew up because someone told me. I didn't even realized that he was supposed to marry Padmé later since he appeared so much younger than she did (I can't tell how old someone is but still...).

agreed. the prequel trilogy is effects over story. the original trilogy is effects that were great for the time enhancing the story

Clearly, Star Wars is a cultural icon of our age. But the films' cultural weight far exceeds their artistic merit.

When Lucas is telling a simple story, he is at his best. The general feeling that episodes IV and V are his strongest works are ample evidence of this. As he tries to enrich his backstories, he begins to trip over himself and do stupid things. (Midichlorians. Need I say more?)

But as a filmmaker, Lucas is sometimes underappreciated. There is no question that each of the films has broadened the filmmaker's toolkit to bring us new and exciting images.

This criticism is not unique to Lucas, James Cameron is similarly gifted, but allows himself to get saddled with truly terrible screenplays.

The first 3 films were the best undoubtedly. I think Empire Strikes Back was the best of them all.

The prequels were stupid. And I think the actors couldn't carry the roles very well.

I think that's a trifle unfair. Granted, Hayden Chritensen was truly awful, but look at the pap that he was required to deliver!

Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson are all strong performers who bring great skill and artistry to their work. But noone could have turned those sows ears into silk purses!

I like the originals more than the prequels by far. Neither is that great. The third one is by far the worst YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE ANAKIN!

Natalie is a good actor, it was the writing that makes it seem otherwise. Liam and Ewan are amazing. They're as good as Carrie, Harrison, Mark, and Alec were in the OT.

It's depressing that all that Anakin did was in vain. That's why I hold Ep 3 almost as high as the OT, despite it's shortcomings. Lucas finally began getting his s*** together. The thing with me is that I am so used to Hayden at this point, that I overlook his monotone, because I associate it with Anakin's voice and have for a long time. Matt Lanter's Anakin sounds weird to me, because he's not monotone.

Oh, and look what I found. Jake Lloyd being interviewed from last year. He's in college now.
