Something I like about The Middle is that the whole family are, initially, stereotypes... but they grow on you. The youngest lad, who seems to be obviously aspie, is actually a very sympathetic character, despite his oddness. And his sister, NT, is also very sympathetic, despite her oddness. Also, I really like the fact that the aspie lad's parents don't realise he's on the spectrum. They just know he's odd, and love the stuffing out of him anyway.

Oh... forgot to say that I stopped watching Parenthood, because I'm actually a mother, and I would never tolerate the company of such self centred objectionable gits in real life. I don't know who I am most annoyed with... the parents of the autistic kid, or the gay parents of the adopted Chinese girl... both sets of parents seem more interested in their "parenthood" status than in their actual children. I want to go and rescue the kids.... Then I remind myself it's just a story. No parents are that much up their own posteriors... are they?

Judging from a couple of people in my family, yes, yes they are.

I think you got your shows mixed up mgran (but they're similar so that's okay)...the gay couple with the Asian baby are from the ABC sitcom "Modern Family" which I prefer because it's a comedy so you're not supposed to take it seriously. The problem with "Parenthood" is that it's supposed to be more serious but everyone acts like a jerk in an unfunny fashion, and I just dont have any sympathy for that.

Is there an autistic character on "Modern Family"? (I like to keep up with how we're represented so will watch a show I'm otherwise not interested in so I can see what they do with the autistic character(s))

No but I still enjoy that show far more than "Parenthood" regardless.

"The Middle" another family sitcom on ABC, has a kid who fits all the stereotypes and symptoms of an Aspie but it is never considered or even spoke of. It's only dismissed as quirky.
