I generally prefer theme songs that, well, musically represent the theme of the show. I tend to hate theme songs that don't really fit their shows. Anyway, here are some of my favorites:

Star Trek: TNG

Doctor Who

Sherlock- I think this one fits the mystery/ detective theme very well, which is why it's my favorite.

Honorable mention: Haven (SyFy). While I don't think it fits the sci-fi/fantasy theme of the show, it fits the town itself perfectly.
