If you'd like something a little more offbeat, I suggest Creatures from the Pink Lagoon. It's about 5 or 6 gay men who are on vacation at a lake and get attacked by zombies. It's hilarious, and the romance is sweet.

thanx for that, i shall have to see if that is available on netflix.

You might be interested in the movie Cthulhu, which has a gay protagonist, and was distributed by Here, which of course is associated with LGBT movies.
And beside the gay undercurrent to the film, it should also be said that I consider this to be the best film based on H.P. Lovecraft's horror fiction I've ever seen.

Well, I'm a sucker for anything from the 1930s and many from the 1920s. I also can't resist "chosen one" stuff as a rule, if it's done right (I've never been able to wade through The Matrix but I blame Keanu Reeves). Any time there's some wonderful surprise about the main character, some reward for all the crap they've dealt with, some moment where the world at last sees their value... Cinderella stuff. This also suggests I have some unresolved issues I might need to look into.

I also like romance when it's worked into another genre... Spider-Man II does this well, Some Kind of Wonderful, The Shop Around the Corner. It can be the main plotline but it should not be all there is, and at the same time, it shouldn't be too easy or too obvious. In fact, one of my favorite love stories is... brace yourselves... Megamind. In fact, it fits a lot of my requirements. I'm fascinated with voice acting so it pleases me there, too.

thanks for that, i'll add that to the "to watch" list, though as far as lovecraft goes, i've long been partial to the uncut "Reanimator" 8) as that flick was just so delightfully and hilariously rude

Action/pysch thrillers... basically fast paced movies. <-- These movies keep me engaged (does not mean I like them). I like classic slow paced movies on the contrary.

Slasher films will amuse me forever, BUT there must be minimal plot and many cheesy mindless killings. Hence why Jason Voorhees will always be my Number 1 favorite movie bad guy. But I refuse to ever watch Jason X. No. Not happening.

Basically, I'll watch just about any old movie, anything based off a comic book/ regular book, anything that's bloody (but does NOT involve warfare) and anything "scary". I'm really easy to amuse.

What I like the most is finding very surrealist films. Movies that kind of follow their own rules and also have a good strong visual style. Also the main character has to struggle a lot through the strange places and situations they may find themselves in.

A prime example is Videodrome. One of my all time favorites. Also NAKED LUNCH. Cronenberg's direction and lighting are great in these and also benefit from Howard Shore's great music scores.

A few David Lynch movies ranging from Eraserhead to INLAND EMPIRE.

Also movies by Terry Gilliam such as Time Bandits, Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, or even Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

A few other are Being John Malkovich, A Scanner Darkly, Jacob's Ladder, or The Fountain.

Every one of those movies are great. I agree, surreal films, when made by real artists like David Lynch, David Cronnemberg, and Terry Gilliam are among the most memorable movies of all.

Sci-fi, action, horror. Things having to do with combat, space travel, etc, are good. Having a good plot and not just special effects is also good.

I'm deeply concerned with aesthetics, and if a film isn't up to my standards in that regard then I find it difficult to be engaged by. I don't select films by genres, more often directors or just something with a "plot" summary that piques my interest.

Above all, I find very ambiguous, mysterious and enigmatic (yet subtly so) films to be the ones I respond to most favorably.
