I wouldn't describe the film as rom com. I wouldn't even describe it as a comedy. It's an indie romance drama.

Anyways, I really thought the film was pretty accurate with its depiction of asperger's. This is especially notable when you compare the film to something like Mozart and the Whale, which IS more stereotypical (and featured a female aspie that seemed a little TOO outgoing).

When I saw it, I was able to relate with many of Adam's behaviours. I am not as far down the spectrum as he seemed to be, but it was the little things that I was able to relate with (e.g. him standing awkwardly while at a party).

I thought the female lead was more likely to have had Border Line Personality Disorder.

I didn't see anything in Beth that made me consider borderline personality disorder.

As far as the movie itself was, it was alright, but I thought the ending was too open ended.

She slept around by her own admission and was hypersexual, she was way too sociable, was manipulative, and would alternately be worshipful of the lead male character, or would try pushing him away, then would fall apart when he "abandoned" her.
So yeah, I think she was Borderline. She reminded me a lot of the crazy b***h I used to go out with, who was indeed had Borderline Personality Disorder.

I guess we have really different definitions of hypersexual and manipulative then. She just seemed way too high functioning to have bpd to me.

I do think Beth was manipuitive. She helped set up the "surpise" meeting for Adam and Her parents. She did that knowing about his AS and how uncomfortable it would be for Adam. But she went ahead and did it anyway. Only thinking about herself. No wonder he had a meltdown over it. I would have, too.
