Captain Tsubasa --dubbed in Arabic as Captain Majid. When I was 4 years old (21 years ago).
Not only watched religiously, but when I visited my grandparents overseas; all demographics watched it in arabic.; not just the kids were watching it.

Who do you call when you want some pepperoni?
SAMURAI PIZZA CATS!
They're stamping out crime, and you know that ain't baloney!

That was my first, definitely. Early-to-mid nineties. It was just so quirky. I loved Guido Anchovies, the blue-clad romeo of the team.

The anime that got me hooked were the Lupin the III movies. That and Cowboy Bebop.

Technically I watched Pokemon as my first, followed by Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh (of which I only still enjoy Digimon because it is just plain cheese-tastic and nostalgic), but the first I actually watched out of interest in anime was Fullmetal Alchemist and the first (and so far the only) one I finished was Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Pokemon. I loved it when I was younger, and I was the perfect age group for when it came out. My best friend told me about it and it was curious. WB has just restarted the first half of the first season on weekday afternoons in preparation for the tournament, and I caught it on the second episode. It was my favorite show for a while and I would watch every episode. Honestly, I think the show just went down when they dropped Misty. It seemed like it took a big backtrack and character development, and the stories seemed to lose that more serious tone it got during the Jhoto season.

My very first taste of anime was Pokemon. After that it was Digimon, Cardcaptors, the Tenchi Muyo/Universe/In Tokyo series, and Hamtaro (which I watched religiously during the summer it aired on Cartoon Network).

But I didn't start becoming a serious anime geek until Rurouni Kenshin started airing on Toonami and I became obsessed with it. I also taped episodes of Inuyasha on VHS when it aired on Adult Swim.

Those were really good times for me, because I bonded with my then-best friend over those series. Even though she was NT, she became just as obsessed as I was. We spent entire sleepovers doing nothing but watching them, talking about them, drawing fanart and writing fanfics of them. It sounds so simple, but it was really significant to me.

I wish I could find someone to do that with nowadays, but it's kind of hard to find 20-something year old women who would rather watch anime than hit the bar scene picking up guys, or focusing on college work.

My first anime would be Captain Harlock--in its French-language version: Albator, le corsaire de l'espace.
On SRC (Societe Radio-Canada), the French-language network of the CBC.

My first was Pokemon too, but I didn't really like it as much as the games.

The first one other than that was some show called Ouran Academy Host Club or something like that, and that was only because I was pretty much forced to watch it by my friend.

And Hetalia: Axis Powers is the first anime I've watched that I've really, really liked, but no one seems to know what that is lol.
