In Oz, there was the Nudge Bar ad (about ten years ago now) which only showed about two or three times because everyone was talking about it the next day.

In NZ (where people make funnier commercials than in Australia :P ) There's a lot of great commercials.

But my favourite is a telecom commercial, where a group of baby meerkats are learning to be sentries or some such thing, and they keep nodding off on watch.

IT'S SO CUTE!! !! !

Calgon was well over a decade before my time, but it's still pretty amusing.

In the UK I loved the Carling Black Label adverts in the 80's / 90's. Had to be seen to be appreciated. Best ones were the skit on the Levis advert and the Dam Busters one. All were people doing unusual or amazing things with the catch phrase "I bet he drinks Carling Black Label".

More recently some of the Carlsberg adverts were quite good as well.

I agree with the John Smiths one.

There's something about insurance company spots I enjoy. Of the several Geico spots done over the years, my fave is the "Tiny House" one where newlyweds on a reality show are forced to live in a really tiny place for a year ("I just wanna make an omelette!"). And of course, the caveman spots.

Runner up is the Nationwide Insurance spot where the kid doing a science project builds a robot that blows up the parents' car. (Be warned: Kevin Federline will be in Nationwide's Super Bowl ad.)

The Tidy Cats commercials. No surprise for a cat lover.

Odd as it sounds, this commercial enchanted me as a child. I've never heard music like that before until finding Carmina Burana ten years later.

Another is the XBOX advert which got banned, where a mum gives birth to a baby which flies out of the ward and keeps flying and ages as it flies and when the person's old and still flying he flies into his grave. He just crashes into it.

And the slogan "Life's Short, Play More, With XBOX."

 - I found it hilarious.
