At the begining of the movie, I was hoping that when the large starships were destroyed and fell out of orbit, that you would see them take out a ton of buildings and cause these huge explosions that shook the theater. :( Also the landscape of Kashyyk dosen't look anything like it does in the KOTOR game or any other description I'm aware of. :? I thought it was cool that most of the lamer looking aliens from Ep. 1&2 were repleced by some cooler ones and the Confederation craft didn't look as gay as in the last movie. While Padme dying is predictable (see Ep. VI) I thought the events leading up to it were a very unexpected twist. I might mention more in a few weeks.

maybe old george will get it right the next time round?

George had a tendancy to reveal way too much of the inner workings of the movie in 1+2, and I think this was improved in III. I didn't want to know that the midi-chlorians are the source of the force, and I am glad this was not brought up in III. Somethings are more enjoyble when they remain a mystery.

I'll second. What really struck me was that everything looked so art-deco in the movie, and this was pleasurable to my eyes. The constant twilight settings on coursecent was good, and fit well with the theme, but I think it was slightly overdone.

Oh, and I learned a long time ago to never go to a star wars movie for the acting.

Anybody want to speculate on who Anakin's father was?

Also...

Was Anakin a "Bad Seed" or was it the way he grew up (his environment) that caused him to make bad choices? Whadda ya think?

SPOILER WARNING

I think it's clear that Darth Plagus was Anakins father. Palpatine says that he could create life out of the force, and in EP1 Anakin's mother, Shmi, says "there was no father", and Qui-Gon tells the council "It's possible he was conceived by the midi-chloreans."

Absolutely fantastic...he turns into Darth Vader!! ! Can cinema get any better?

Best to worst Star Wars films:

Empire Strikes Back
Revenge of the Sith
A New Hope
Attack of the Clones
Return of the Jedi
Phantom Menace

So yeah - the prequels are actually pretty good (apart from TPM, which was dire)

I don't think Anakin was a bad seed. But I think that the course of events along with his personality led to his joining the dark side.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS...

Anakin doesn't really follow the Jedi Code (for the most part). This is the code:

There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force.

Anakin's personality is emotional, passionate, and a little chaotic. He is also arrogant. In Episode III, Anakin says to Palpatine that the Jedi only think of others. Anakin's arrogance causes him to think of himself most of the time. Also he fears Padme's death. He must have forgot that the Jedi believe that there is no death, a person just becomes one with the Force. Anakin is willing to go to unnatural and evil lengths just to stop her death.

So arrogance and a fear of death caused him to join the Dark Side. Doesn't that sound like another fantasy bad guy? You-Know-Who...

Lately I've been thinking (very scary, I know) about prophecies. In Episode III, Anakin basically had a prophecy that Padme would die, but he doesn't have all of the information. So he tries to do everything in hiw power to stop that from happening. But his trying to stop it is what actually causes it to happen. If he had never had the prophecy in the first place, or even if he had and didn't do anything about it, what he feared the most would never come to pass. As I was pondering that, I realised that most prophecies in epics are like that. For example, almost every prophecy in Greek mythology is like that. Even the one in (yes I am going to say it...sorry) Harry Potter is like that.

Sorry about the rambling. I hope it all made sense.

Using Force Choke on her didn't exactly help save her from impending death. Once he fell to the dark side, her fate became second only to the aquisition of power and everything he did all along was a matter of free will.

Well, it was less embarrassing to watch then the last two, which were, frankly, some of the biggest letdowns in the history of film. But it still had the same problems (bad acting, bad dialogue, hokey plot). And Anaking turing evil really isn't much of a surprise, considering how he spent the last two movies acting like an arrogant jerk. While the seriousness of this installment (as well as the tie-ups to several lingering storyline problems) is a turn in the right direction, it still falls far short of the classic trilogy. Let's face it, Lucas always was a hack writer and director who relies entirely on special effects to make a movie; he was just able to cover it up until now, when advancments in computer technology finally unmasked it.

In the first movie, Anakin was just a little kid with no Jedi training. In the second and third movies, Lucas did a good job showing how Anakin just about always exemplified the Sith Code:

Peace is a lie, there is only Passion.
Through Passion I gain Strength.
Through Strength, I gain power.
Through Power, I gain Victory.
Through Victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall set me free.

Yes, that is correct, but there is more to it than that. You have to look at the big picture. Of course his choking her didn't help save her, but he was already Darth Vader by then. He was already on the Dark Side. Before he fell Padme was his original concern. He never would have wanted Palpatine's help had it not been for the dreams (prophecy), and Palpatine helped lead him to the Dark Side.

If Anankin hadn't dreamt that Padme would die, he never would've built that relationship with Palpatine, he never would have joined the Dark Side, he never would've broken her heart, he never would've choked her, and she wouldn't have died. Does that make sense? So in most fantasy epics, seeing an event in the future and then trying to stop it is usually what makes that event happen.

Fear was the key to Anakin's fall to the darkside.

Anakin was egosistical, brash, headstrong, and chafed under the leadership of Obi-Wan and the Jedi Council. He exemplified the Sith Code half-way through Episode II, and Palpatine was extremely manipulative. Assuming he never knew Padme, he was still at extreme risk of falling to the dark side. Palpatine was determined to have him as an apprentice one way or the other. If Padme was going to be fine, he would have played on another one of Anakin's passions to coerce him to fall and provoke him to kill Padme to prevent any offspring that would threaten his rule.

Yes, I know. You are correct. But I don't think you understand my previous posts, and I don't know how to make it any clearer. Does anyone else understand? If not, I'll try to think of a better way of putting it.
