I considered including him, along with Tic-Toc of Oz, Rosie the maid and the three robots from "Silent Running", but I didn't want the list to get too long. I'm surprised that C-3PO and R2-D2 haven't received any votes so far, though.

I like Robby the Robot, but David from A.I. was just so aspie in a realistic way, you just have to love him. BTW, does Edward Scissorhands count? I know he's not really a cybernetic person, but he is a machine man. Though that's more surreal fantasy steeped with symbolism rather than science fiction, Edward is actually my favorite machine person.

The swimming pool scene in AI made me cringe.
I believe they used autism as a model when creating David's character.

Eeee, I forgot Huey, Dewy and Louie from silent running but there are sooo many film robots and I must admit I'm a bit soft about them all.

Wow -- what a comprehensive poll.

Alright.

I say...

Data, Marvin the paranoid android, & R2D2.

Bender. And all the other robot characters in Futurama, especially The Robot Devil, Roberto, Robot Santa and Calculon.

I can't decide between Bender and Marvin.

I also am impressed and appreciative of all the robot characters included in this poll. Kryten, Johnny 5, Robby and Sonny all stood out for me, but I had to choose Marvin for obvious reasons.

To be even more specific, I am choosing the radio series incarnation of Marvin, as voiced by Stephen Moore.

But...if I had to be stranded on a desert island with any one of these robots, then I would absolutely have to choose Data.

I think I am reading far too much into this poll.

Just to confirm a previous poster.

The robot in Forbidden Planet WAS Robby the Robot, although he has been in lots since.

I like Marvin, although Bender's pretty cool despite the fact that breaks the first two of Asimov's laws (and by extension breaks the third). I always had a soft spot for "Futurama". It was a great show. But Marvin's much better.
