I have felt like that at times, definitely, though not so much because of my autism specifically, but rather because I was in a circle of geeky friends (being a geek myself) in secondary school, we were the social outcasts... so that's what I could easily recognise in the story of the X-Men.

I'm very fond of X-Men, I can see the parallels between the persecution of mutants and the prejudice against and rejection of anyone who has a disorder/disability, not autism specifically... But next to the obvious parallels with racism, I see that one too.

And yes, Wolverine's claws are part of his body. Originally, they were supposed to be bionic, but as Bradleigh said, it was later revealed that he always had the bone claws, then the adamantium was applied to them. So he extends the claws with muscles.

There are some similarities, for sure. I feel more like Rogue did in X3. I'd take the cure in a heartbeat. My Aspieness doesn't offer me any benefits, but provides a lot of negatives.

I think a lot of us can relate to Rogue, because her power makes her untouchable. It creates a wall around her, and sometimes it seems as though autism creates a wall that's similar, but different.

Some Aspies get benefits from their condition, much like most of the X-Men get benefits from their mutant abilities. If I could control weather and fly, or change my skin to solid steal and get super strength, I probably wouldn't want a cure, much like the Aspies who's interests give them the benefit of a good career they like or can participate in their interests at a level that enhances their overall enjoyment, they probably wouldn't want a cure either.

However, there's Rogue, a mutant who gets no real benefit from her "ability". It means she cannot experience very basic parts of the human experience and in order for her to use her "ability" she has to really hurt someone. A lot of disadvantages and no real advantages. That's how I feel about my Asperger's condition. Asperger's holds me back in nearly every aspect of my life and offers me zero benefits/advantages. I would cure it in a heartbeat if I could. I'm not saying a cure should be forced on people, but if it was an option, that would be sweet.

I am as God made me, or as God saw fit to allow. I am who I am for a very specific reason, or so I would like to believe. Just one cog in the great machine of Creation.

What the heck, I'll answer this thread:

Slowmutant (cool username, btw, it's more or less what people would call me - but that's a long story within a long story.), the film series has become a somewhat powerful metaphor for everyone and anyone who feel excluded in some sense. I think your aspie literalness is getting in the way of your comprehension here.

I identified with Magneto, to be honest... the man who feels oppressed by the misguided fools who want to cure the world of his kind out of fear... On the same note, I also feel a bit of Prof. Xavier in that I want to provide an open channel of communication to the outside world. However, if the misguided fools of autism speaks want to stop us, we have to stop them...

Yeah lets create an autistic terroris group and make everyone in the world autistic too so they see our point of view, I heard that telephon can give an increase chance in it, all we need is a bit of research into it.

I'm new to all of this and I haven't gotten my official diagnosis yet, but as I've been reseaching Asperger's, the X-Men did in fact keep popping up in the back of my mind. I'm a big comic book fan. :)
I always thought Magneto had the coolest power, especially when writers got creative with (i.e. pulling the adamantium out of Wolverine, pulling the iron out of your blood, etc.), but recently I've been really impressed with the things they've done with the Scarlett Witch's power. It's like having the Infinite Improbability Drive from Hitchhiker's Guide in your head. :)

I think it totally relates to us but also to almost any minority group. The X-men movies are a particularly strong allegory for the Holocaust if you think about it.

<< the magneto film will be really interesting in that respect as he lived through the holocaust. it could be a really interesting and though provoking film i think given his background as a holocaust survivor who goes on to try and humanity with his powers in secret with Xavier and seeing how he goes down the path of extremism and fascism.

It seems a shame that the X-Men, unlike other heroes such as Spiderman and the Fantastic Four, are hated because of who they are. They risk their lives for people everyday. and all anyone cares about is that they are mutants.

What have they got against mutants? :?

But it was in Alberta..... and its a real Albertan setting. :D
