I think boycotting implies you normally watched the movie, but then stopped watching the movie to prove a point. Much like when people boycotted Kellog's for dropping Phelps as the spokesperson because he smoked pot. They stopped buying products that they normally would have bought.

I boycotted America's Next Top Model when they dropped Heather. I had watched every single episode from season 1, but then stopped watching it once they kicked Heather off.

Not as if I'd march around with a sign but:

I've boycotted Dominos for a long time because of the pro-life stuff. I don't know if they give quite as much to pro-life organizations as they used to. Besides the pizza sucks.

I boycotted BP for supporting McCain/Palin - but I'm over that.

I boycotted Coors for their fascist donation practices. Besides the beer sucks.

I boycotted baseball after the player's strike and league realignment back in the early 90's. I'll do it again if they pull anymore shenanigans like that.

I'm sure I've boycotted shows for killing a character - but I can't think of any now.

I boycott products and corporations, but movies are there for entertainment, I don't want to get political about them (and I get political about most things, LOL).

Last summer I boycotted Coca-Cola because it was sponsoring the Beijing Olympics and therefore supporting the Chinese dictatorship. For that entire summer I drank only Pepsi.

Excellent point, gg - as usual.

I won't boycott something based on content - that's free speech and expression. Even if they make gazillions of dollars off of it. It's the viewers right to watch and the the film-makers right to say what they want.

But when corporations - like Coke or BP - spend their money (or shareholders money) in areas of human rights, religious, and environmental irresponsibility, a boycott is the best way for "the people" to respond.

Yes it is. I must be stupid because I wouldn't know how to pronounce it myself. It's French and I cannot read French because I don't know the rules of their alphabet and how to pronounce their words. At least I know "oui" is pronounced "we."

So of course they would have the pronunciation at the bottom to help us American audience.

Well, the reason why I knew if the word was that I watched "Fawlty Towers" - in particular, the episode 'Basil the Rat'. Polly mentions 'ratatouille' in order to keep the presence of Manuel's pet rat a secret - "The chef calls the ratatouille 'Basil' because he puts quite a lot of basil in it."

So I didn't need any extra help in that department, heh.

I boycott any movie that is released on a day with a "Y" in its name.

But that's just me.

So...what's *wrong* with those? And who's trying to "fool" anyone? They're fiction and never presented as anything but.

I'm sorry, but I have a STRONG dislike of Disney. They keep making the same crap over and over. That's not to say they NEVER make anything good (I really liked the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie) but it's rare that they do... just my opinion.

And "Only stupid Earth brains would be fooled" is a Cybermen quote from Doctor Who.

As well as "Clever, clever, clever" delivered as if from a cancer kazoo.

An example of Cyberman obduracy, and then hijack over.

Repetition isn't nearly the same thing as what you initially said. And repetition doesn't have to be a bad thing--how many times did Shakespeare write basically the same sonnet?

So which is it? Is it "emotional rubbish" or is it "making the same crap over and over" (both of which are done by pretty much every company out there, I might add)?

The repetition wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't "crap"... I said they make "the same crap over and over"... the same stupid romances, the same boring plots, the same annoying characters, the same awful music... all emotionalized fluff, no intellectual substance. How many times do we have to be subjected to this? Instead of trying to improve their designs, they stick to the same formula, recycling the same ideas far past what little entertainment value they had. They get away with it, though, because their primary audience is kids, who they (wrongfully) assume to be incapable of any intelligent thought.

And on those rare occasions when Disney DOES get it right (ex: Pirates) they go back and totally screw it up later.

What movies, exactly, are you talking about? What elements and themes are you talking about? Especially considering most of their animated movies are based off preexisting stories, meaning they have little control as to the storylines (and before you point out that they change a lot, most of those stories have been changed multiple times before Disney ever came into the picture).

I think that's a bad reason for boycotting a movie.

A) I wouldn't have had my incorrect pronounciation corrected by my parents. Nowadays, I know French, and it's not a problem. But I don't blame them for putting it on the box. French is a tricky language sometimes (like when you have to write verbs like "skiions". That just looks stupid).
and
B) I boycott stores like Hollister/Abercrombie and Fitch/American Eagle for putting nothing but their own name on the clothing (and because they make the clothes so ridiculously small), so I'm not the best judge of boycotts.
